Floors from San Diego
A group of people from the Magnolia Wesleyan Church, in San
Diego, California, came to pour concrete floors for the Bible
School building. Eight men and three women flew to South America
for work and adventure.
Everyone chipped
in and the work really began to take off after we rented a cement
mixer. Shell sand was mixed with cement and brought by wheelbarrow
to the rooms. This mixture formed the base for the finish coat
of cement. Both layers of cement make a very strong floor, but
the technique is something that you wouldn't see in North America.
Work days began
at 7:00 AM and ended with lunch at 1:00 PM. The heat and humidity
can be stifling in Suriname. We are just five degrees north of
the equator and it's always hot! After four days of hard work
under the tropical sun, the team members were ready for a day
of relaxation and adventure.
