Rerun

December 15, 1999

I suppose that I should call this episode New Beginnings, because everything that has ever happened on Dawson's was totally reversed this week. First, some bad news: Pacey does not appear once in this episode. Second, some not so bad news: Jen does not appear once in this episode. Joey, Dawson, Andy, and Jack all visit a fictitious Harvard in Cambridge, Massachusetts. All four character run completely different stories.

Dawson goes to enter a film contest. He submits his Blair Witch movie which we remember from a few weeks ago. As he submits the movie, he tries to befriend this girl who is running the entries to the film. It's showtime, and nobody likes Dawson's film. This girl from the entry desk comes over and tries to give Dawson some advice. Her name is Nicky Green. He disregards her advice until he sees this other movie in the contest and learns that she made it. Dawson criticizes the movie out of jealousy, but he thinks that her movie will win the contest. When Nicky's movie doesn't even place as winner, Dawson comforts her. The two quickly become friends. On his train ride home, Dawson sees this girl. Her parents are divorced, and she is now moving in with her father who lives in Capeside. Who is her father? The principal of Capeside High School. Will Dawson fall in love with the principal's daughter?

Joey is going to visit the school as a junior, prospective student. She ends up being housed with a boy because his name is AJ, and her name is Joey (but the computer says it is Joseph). The two don't get along initially. Joey then goes to a freshman English class and sees him. The two talk before class and then he begins to teach the class. Apparently, he is an undergraduate TA and teaches this class when the professor is away. He picks on her in class because her favorite book is Little Women...apparently she was named after the protagonist. But then the two bond. As they say good-bye, she gives him her phone number. Will he call? But that doesn't matter. Has Joey totally forgotten the passion that exists between her and Pacey. Remember the last episode when they danced together?!

Andy goes to meet the dean, but she can't get to meet with him. Instead, she befriends the dean's secretary, Mrs. Boyd. Mrs. Boyd teaches Andy life lessons. Andy will no longer cry if she doesn't get into this anonymous, greatest university in the world.

Jack goes to visit gay Boston. He has taken the Pink Pages (I'm not making this up) with him. He is basically scared away from every gay place that he goes to, but on the train ride home, Jack starts talking to this prep school guy who is going home to Capeside because he just got out of a hard relationship...with a guy. Will this guy become Jack's boyfriend?

THE PROBLEM WITH THIS EPISODE: Forget the fact that Pacey wasn't in the episode. I mean that did piss me off, but what really pissed me off is the fact that he wasn't even thought of. Remeber at the end of last episode that Pacey and Joey had all of this romantic chemistry. They went to the dance classes together, and the dance instructor told them how magical they were together, and then we saw how jealous Joey was when she caught Pacey kissing Jen (and I don't think she wanted Jen even though in season #1 there was that one scene where the two were very sexual together...Jen told Joey that she had nice breasts when Joey changed her shirt in front of Jen. And then the time that the two ate ice cream together. Keep in mind, it was NOT a girls' night out ice cream fest, but slow nibbling). Joey and Pacey belong together, but I'll forgive Josh Jackson for not appearing if he agrees to start in Mighty Ducks 4. NOTE: I originally wrote this for an e-mail, and decided afterwards to add it to this week's summary.

QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: We can't say a book is great simply because we identify with the hero or heroine. --AJ

Two hour episode where Jack comes out... from last year

December 1, 1999

This was a pretty decent episode. First the simple story, then the dirt. Apparently, Dawson's news story about Jack being a gay quarterback was posted on the internet, and Jack receives dozens of e-mails. Many of them are angry e-mails that call Jack many R- rated words, but some are nice. One is from a gay boy who lives a few towns away and thinks that Jack is brave. Jack and this guy eventually start IM-ing and when Jack gets a picture of the guy, he is very excited. He thinks about a date but reasons that right now he just says he is gay where as if he goes on a date then he is gay. Andy pushes Jack into going on the date. The two guys are to meet at a coffee shop. Jack arrives and sees his date waiting, but Jack turns around and leaves. He decides that he's not ready to date yet.

Now for the juicy story. Pacey and Jen are making out in the middle of a school day on Dawson's bed..the two think it will be romantic, but they feel no sexual tension between them. They are upset at this lack of chemistry, but Pacey whips out a condom anyway. All of a sudden they hear Dawson. Jen climbs out the window, and Pacey plays some video games. Dawson questions whether Pacey was only playing video games, but accepts this story nonetheless. Pacey leaves, and Dawson finds the condom. He confronts Pacey, but Pacey says that he had no girl in Dawson's room. In the meantime, Pacey is failing trigonometry. He asks Joey for some help, and she says that she'll tutor him if he attends dance classes with her. Joey wants to go to dance class, because the best dancer will win a college scholarship and Joey and Pacey will be the only high school dancers. The deal is made. The two start studying, but Pacey has no attention span. He claims that in the past he always got sex for studying (i.e. Tamara the teacher and Andy the Brain). Joey asks why boys always have sex on their mind and if this is a backwards way for him to hit on her. Pacey then asks her view on a hypothetical situation...what if a guy and girl decided to have emotionless sex (a la Pacey and Jen). Joey is disgusted by this thought. Anyway, the two go to dance class for a few sessions when one night Jen and Dawson see them going to class. Jen is at the video store looking for Pacey, but Dawson is working that night. Dawson thinks that Joey and Pacey must have been using his bedroom and the condom...Jen is just curious. They follow them into the dance studio and are forced to join the class. There is then this back and forth thing between everyone (even Pacey and Dawson) where Dawson, Joey, and Jen try to figure out what is going on...keep in mind that Pacey understands everything because it was his condom and his deal with Jen about emotionless sex. Anyway, Jen and Pacey get fed up so they leave. They go to get their coats and start making out in the coat check room. Who walks in? Dawson and Joey! Dawson definitely thinks that Jen and Pacey are having sex (because of the condom) and Joey thinks the same thing (because Pacey told Joey about the hypothetical sex scheme). Dawson and Joey leave and then Jen leaves. Then Joey forgets her coat so she comes back to pick it up and sees Pacey sitting in the dance studio. The two talk and we can all tell that they are two steps away from major making out. As for the scholarship, the dance studio didn't have enough money to finance a scholarship this year.

QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: There's enough sexual tension here to produce a Kiss reunion tour. --dance instructor to Pacey and Joey
TRUTH OF THE EPISODE: The storyline is starting to stretch the line of believability. --Pacey
NEXT WEEK: Rerun...Jack's poem leads to rumors about his sexuality.

November

November 24, 1999

It was a pretty good Thanksgiving episode. It's Thanksgiving, and everyone gets together at the house of Grams. Of course Jen is there as it's her home as well as Grams. Then comes Dawson, Gale (his mom), Mitch (his Dad), Joey, Bessy (her sister), Pacey, Andy, and Jack. What happens? Surprise, surprise, Jen's mom shows up. Her name is Helen Lindley, and Jen is very upset to see her mom. She gets mad. Dawson then sees Jen's mom and tells her that he knows about Eve....that Eve is really Helen's long lost daughter who she put up for adoption. (Keep in mind, Helen doesn't know Eve at her current age) Dawson hasn't told Jen, but thinks that Helen should. Helen tells Jen about her half-sister, but doesn't share that the daughter is Eve. Jen realizes that her mother wanted her to improve because her mother made the very mistakes that Jen made (as in being a whore) only mother had to pay the price (as in got pregnant). They bond. Next, Dawson sees his parents getting along very well and thinks that they might get together. He tells them this, and they tell him that their divorce is final. Next, Pacey and Jen keep on almost fulfilling their promise to have sex with each other, yet they do have some emotional bonding in the meantime. Next, Pacey and Andy seem to have achieved some kind of peace. That's about it. In the end, all six kids (Dawson, Joey, Pacey, Jen, Andy, and Jack) sit down for a peaceful, if cheesy, sit around the fire. It's like they're all bonding and getting along so that next week there can be animosity again.

FLAW #1: It's Thanksgiving in Maine, and everyone eats outside in light sweaters and no jackets?
QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: We're all strangers to our parents. We see them, but they don't know us. --Joey
NEXT WEEK: Is Joey jealous when she catches Pacey and Jen making out?

November 17, 1999

Very rarely, something happens: I am forced to swallow my words. I was convinced that Dawson's Creek had no life left in it, but last night's episode proved me very very wrong. It was a great episode, not only for Dawson's, but for TV in general. Without further ado, let me explain the premise. Joey walks into the video store (oh yeah, by the way, apparently Dawson and Pacey still work there!). Dawson is on duty. Joey asks Dawson if he has a copy of "The Crucible." Dawson says that the last copy was just taken out. Joey then complains that she was too busy setting up the bed & breakfast to read the book so she was hoping to watch the movie and then write a paper. Dawson tells Joey there's a way out. He, Jen, and Pacey are getting out of the paper by making a movie. All Joey has to do is join the project to get out of the paper. The next day, the Original Four go to Capeside's Witch Island, where in 1692 (same year as the Salem Witch Trial) thirteen young girls were sent for being witches. The girls all died a violent death when the townspeople burnt a church that had been built on the island. Anyway, Joey and Dawson visit this graveyard where the girls had been buried and Joey notes that there are only 12 graves. The tour guide, who is this young yet creepy girl, says that the 13th body was never found and that many think that the 13th girl, Mary, ran off with her lover, William, who had come to rescue her from this island (by the way, it's totally inappropriate to call two people William and Mary and then not work in an English influence or a Glorious Revolution). While Joey and Dawson are stirring up sexual chemistry at the graveyard, Pacey and Jen are hanging out in the gift shop. Jen decides to set a love potion on Pacey to see if these potions word. By the way, Jen was looking really hot in this episode. (or as Pacey put it "all kinds of cute") Anyway, some people say that the church and the forest are haunted by the ghosts of William and Mary. The tour guide won't take the gang that far so they go on their own. While at the church, Pacey goes to the forest to take a piss, but he doesn't come back right away. Jen will go look for Pacey if Joey and Dawson tell the boat man to wait (to get back to Capeside, the gang has to take a boat before sundown). The boat leaves without everyone, so the gang decides to stay the night out in the church. By the way, as the gang heads towards the church we see the face of the tour guide following them. So night falls and Joey and Dawson fall asleep, but Pacey and Jen are still up. The two get to talking about why they never hooked up. The two decide that they both like to be sexually active so they should have sex with each other as long as there is no emotional connection. They strike this deal, and the two begin to kiss (by the way, why does Pacey hold Jen's chin when he kisses her?). Just then the Church goes on fire, and weird wailing is heard. The gang escapes the church, and goes to the shore where they find a boat. The next scene shows Dawson showing his video to the class. As Dawson ends his presentation, one girl asks who the two people in the background of the final shot are. Dawson does not know. He looks carefully and we see the image of a man in woman in puritan dress, but it is a very blurry image. Were these the ghosts of William and Mary we may never know! (Joey suspects it was the tour guide and boatman playing trick on everyone.) That night, Jen enters the video store to see Pacey. They reconfirm their deal that they can both have emotionless sex with each other whenever they want. As for Joey and Dawson, the love is slowly coming back. Oh yeah, there was this stupid thing with Andy and her heading the disciplinary committee, and she gave out too many misconducts, and so now she isn't the head of the disciplinary committee.

November 10, 1999

This episode actually entertained me. First, the garbage. Pacey is helping Joey build up a new bed and breakfast as her family's new business when he learns that Andy is dating Rob (the creep that Joey hated from work). Andy then finds out that Pacey knows, and she gets upset but still goes out with Rob. That night Pacey and Joey are hanging out when Joey gets a phone call from Andy that Rob tried to force himself onto her...Andy got away, but it was only through luck. Pacey then defends Andy and beats up Rob. Pacey goes to comfort Andy, and the two of them get back together in what I assume is the biblical sense. The next day, Joey questions if Andy made up her story after Rob defends his actions. Rob claims that the two of them were making out when Andy went psycho. Maybe Andy lied about the rape just so that she could get back together with Pacey. Anyway, Pacey then breaks up with Andy, not because of this false-rape, but because he realizes that last night was a mistake. Andy blames Joey for the break up.

The other story involved Jen. Every year, there is a homecoming gala. This year Jen is in charge of the gala along with the oldest, living homecoming queen of Capeside, Miss Freckling. In a story that's too dumb to go into Jen ends up taking Henry to the gala until she realizes that he loves her. She then tells him that they don't have a relationship. He breaks her heart, but hey, I don't care. Dawson's mom, Gale, comes back for the gala and takes Dawson as her date. At the party, Dawson learns that Gale got fired from her new job because she looks too old. Dawson tells his mom that she should talk with Mitch about this. At the end of the episode we do see the two of them talking, but we have no idea what any of it is about.
QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: I'm interpreting it as a sign of Armageddon. --Dawson on Jen's appointment as homecoming queen.
NEXT WEEK: The Blair Witch Project, Dawson style. Four kids...Dawson, Joey, Jen, and Pacey go into the forest to film a real life horror-mentary.

November 3, 1999

Friday the thirteenth episode from the first season.
NEXT WEEK: Jen competes for homecoming queen against Henry's close friend.

October

October 27, 1999

This episode raised many good questions...including can this show suck any more? I'd have to go with "No!" but who am I but a lonely kid with a homepage to complain. As if, I'll totally complain. So, Joey has been working at this gas station where her boss, this annoying guy named Rob, has been asking her out. She keeps on saying "No" and so he asks out Andy as revenge of sorts. Joey doesn't want to see Andy get hurt by Rob so she interferes with their date. The next day Rob comes to the gas station and asks Joey how she managed to be at the date. Wasn't she supposed to be working until late? Joey says yes but that the gas station never gets customers late at night so it was OK for her to close. Rob says no it wasn't and then he fires her. It was totally sexual harassment (more so than I described it on my web page), but when can we do about that? Anyway, Jack decides to help out Henry by telling Henry where he can meet Jen one night. Jen gets pissed as hell at Jack for ruining her private time (which was supposed to be spent with Jack). In the end, she confesses that she likes having a guy friend and likes spending time with him and that he shouldn't try to ruin their time by setting her up with another guy (this makes no sense but the guy friend is Jack and Jen just wants to spend lots of time with him), but we do learn that Jack set Jen up because he really wants his own relationship. Now I'll keep my final story short. One night Dawson sees Eve sneak into Jen's house. He confronts her about this and she denies any wrongdoing and then says that if he tells the police about her then she'll tell the police about the stolen PSAT. But Dawson can't let it rest. He follows her to a boat that Eve is apparently living in and takes a photo that he sees lying around. Later on, Dawson learns that the boat isn't Eve's and that she's there illegally. Anyway, Eve comes to find Dawson figuring that he has the photo. He gives it to her, and she tells him that it's a picture of her mom. Eve also says that she is trying to get out of town...she's been going from town to town trying to find her birth mom and dad (apparently she was adopted or maybe I was just sleeping at this point..tell me if I'm wrong). At the end of the episode, it seems that Eve is gone, and Dawson sees a second photo of Eve's mom. The photo is in Gram's house and is of Jen's mom. Oww, the suspense.
QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: It's the sweet ones you have to watch out for. They'll run over you like a mac truck. --Jen
NEXT WEEK: No previews shown.

October 20, 1999

This episode was adequate at best. Dawson is doing a newspiece for his mom on Jack. The angle is this whole gay guy on the football team thing. Dad tells Dawson not to do the story but doesn't force him to follow through with this so Dawson decides to do the story. Dad gets upset because now the opposing team knows all about the secret Jack. Dad and Dawson get in a major fight in which Dawson reveals that he's sick of being the responsible one in the family. The team really loses the first half of the game and Dawson starts to feel guilty, so he comes up with some game strategies that allow the team to win (the players smudge their numbers and wear make up to distract the other team). Dad and Dawson are happy. Other stories this week: Henry, the quarterback, bids $500 so he can bid the head cheerleader, Jen...the two kiss, but they're not necessarily an item. Jen quits her position as head cheerleader. Andy is about to confess to stealing the PSAT when the principal offers her a position as the head of the school's new student disciplinary body. Pacey and Joey cut class and go hitchhiking. The two are caught by the principal and have to be the team mascot for a game. These two are so cute together. At the end, we find out that Joey has bought a boat, and Pacey and Joey start to fix up this real fixer-upper.
QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: This episode was just not quoteworthy.
NEXT WEEK: Dawson searches for the mysterious Eve who may never have existed.

October 13, 1999

The episode was probably the best of the season, but that's not saying much. It started off with this whole we're self-aware and proud of it thing between Dawson and Eve. As for the episode itself, Eve (the slutty girl that's been hitting on Eve) gives Dawson an advance copy of the PSAT. During a fire drill, one of Dawson's intimates steal the test. Dawson's quest to discover who stole the test causes Joey to tell Dawson just how much he has changed and how he's no longer the sweet, innocent Dawson. Dawson accuses Pacey and the two get into this big fight, but when push comes to shove and it's time for the PSAT, Dawson does what I wish I had done...he leaves the exam room as a symbol of his care for Pacey. Pacey follows and the two make up. As another part of his catharsis, Dawson ditches Eve. At the very end, we realize that Andie is the one who has taken the test. Other facts this episode: Joey and Pacey become friends, Pacey and Andie officially break up, and Henry (the QB) has a crush on Jen.
QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: If you've seen one hour of self-analytical teens whining you've seen them all. --Dawson on "Felicity"
NEXT WEEK: Dawson does a news feature on Jack. Mitch fears that this interview is distracting his star player.
