The
Shattered Dream
Three years together
of married life
filled with love and
laughter
Always believing in
your vows
to live happily ever
after.
Standing beside her,
holding her close
through good times
and through bad
Resolving conflict
and misunderstandings
when her stubborness
made you mad.
Sharing your love and
your lives
so happy together
it seemed
Until one day a simple
question
and she shattered
all your dreams.
"Isn't it great to
be married?"
you innocently asked
one day
She hesitated and
stopped to think,
she didn't know what
to say.
What's going on, why
didn't she say
and what did she hesitate
for?
Then with a sentence
she shattered you,
"I don't think I love
you anymore!"
"My God, my God, what
did I do
to make her feel this
way?
Why for six months
has she pondered,
why did she never
say?"
The last seven years
of togetherness
flashed before your
eyes
The questions you
continually asked yourself ~
the whats, the hows,
the whys!
The brokenness upon
your face
the agony of not knowing
why
The thought that she
stopped loving you
just made you break
down and cry.
The pain you feel,
I know it hurts
deep down inside your
heart
You never thought
that it would end
that you would ever
part.
You see her and you
can't forget
you still remember
when
Your life together,
just you and her ~
it all came to an
end.
As time has passed
you've come to accept
the way that things
once were
And though your life
is not the same
you could never hate
her.
You will always have
the memories
of the life you shared
together
A place to remain
in your heart
is now your friendship
for each other.
So now you've gone
your separate ways
you have risen above
the pain
Drawing on strength
and family love
your life can now
start again.
Oh sweet love of your
youth
she will always be
a part
Of the memory of the
life you had
now locked within
your heart.

"Six months after I
left my ex-husband, my brother called in tears telling us that his wife
didn't want to be married to him anymore. He was shattered! I can still
see the agony in his eyes and loss upon his face. He gave her so much yet
she decided that she didn't love him the way she used to, and wanted to
go their separate ways. Yet after all she put him through, I remember him
telling me not to hate her....but I found that difficult as she had hurt
my baby brother, who showed nothing but the sweetest devotion and love
any woman could ever want lavished upon her. I wrote this poem to encourage
him that there is life beyond divorce. Yet, they never divorced, as she
was killed in a car accident June 1998 on her way to work. My brother is
now very happily married to a wonderful woman who has given him the family
he has so desired. At last his dream has prevailed!"

and Hands ~ Together As One" and "At the
End of the Day" for poems I have written for my brother and his lovely
wife!
