~Vietnam Vet~

Too many of us didn't care
Our boys came back and we weren't there
No warm greetings, shaking hands
Politicians, or brass bands.

It's to this nation's shame, and we are all to blame,
For ignoring our boys who fought;
But if it's not too late, "let's open the gate"
And give them our total support.

To every Nam Vet, we owe a debt;
A debt of recognition.
So let's pull together and never ever
Trust a flag-waving politician!

There can be no ifs or buts; these boys had guts
Many died in the line if duty
Two decades have passed, let's show them at last
We are behind them absolutely.

As well, don't forget the wives of these vets
They, too took their share of "flak."
But united they stood as no others would
Why didn't we do that?

In conclusion can I say, at the end of the day
It all comes down to our guilt
So give him your hand, show you now understand
It's time for the bridges to be built.
