Page Last Updated on: 7th June '00 Work on the new material wil re-commence this weekend, as exams and whatnot are finished, a few more gigs are also to
be planned. John M goes into the studio this weekend to record some of his own stuff, with Rupert at the helm, and Dike/Tex at the mike. 4 songs are ready to go, Jaded, Starling, Piper (instrumental) and an as yet
untitled song. The last 2 are quiet, the first two are far from quiet. Sound samples will go up here as soon as may be. 26th April 2000 Work is currently in progress on a few new ditties, courtesy of the Two Johns. John B
has churned out at least two new pieces that are cool, and simply require some lyrics/melodies to complete them. One of them, in particular, is severely kick-shit....!
John M has also been busy, 'Jaded' being the latest construction, which is intended for his work with Mr MacCarthy Morrogh, but PnW can dutyfully churn it out. Lyrics are
to be sorted out too for that....more as the work progresses next week.... 18th April 2000
Welcome to Purenuwool.com! We are still residing on the geocities server, not for much longer i'd say though. Work is on-going on some new songs, and a few gigs are planned for sometime around the end of May/Early June.
23rd March 2000 Last night, PnW played with Mongoose, Parking and Fred in Nancy Spains. An
excellent night, all bands played well, pity the sound quality wasn't the best. In spite of this, PnW played a great set, which was tight and enjoyed by all, and was received
with great enthusiasim, too much in that at least one audience member was removed for being overly vigourous up the front. The venue was nearly full, a great turn out. We were joined on stage by the Amazing
Dez, who danced his little ass off and shook those shakers....he will be joining us again, and he also sold CD's for us after the gig. Thanks to all that turned up and also to those that bought CD's, your support and
presence for the local music scene is much appreciated! Here's the set they played at a thousand miles per hour: Mildred, Glue,Open,Deadwood,Below,3-D, Still, Mission, Only, ABC.
A Dublin gig is next on the cards, as well as hopefully, a few more in the Cork area. I took down the photos as space was becoming a problem, but will put up a decent
photos section when i can find some decent photos to put in it!21st March 2000 Tomorrow evening sees the first gig in quite a while, Nancy Spains at 8 ish...see you
there! There will be plenty of CD's for sale, at a measly fiver a go, as well as marvellous dancing girls... 14th March 2000
Long time no update, yes yes....we have not been idle, practice has been going very well, all is set for wed the 22nd. CD's have been burned and packaged, and can be purchased for a measily £5!
For the anglers amoungst you, please see the UCCAC Fishathon page at
http://www.ucc.ie/students/socs/angling 23rd Feb '00 Some new photos gone up in all gallerys....
21st February '00 The Pure nu Practice last w/e went very well, and a set list has been agreed for next month. All issues relating to the CD have been resolved, and it now has a
bonus/surprise, (pronounced 'SUPPLIES!'), but you will have to buy it to hear what that is. Have a look at the contacts page for details of ordering the CD's, production of
which will begin next week. This page will soon be split into archived and recent news too for speed's sake, and the links page has been updated too. Since the CD burning
is soon to commence, we thought it'd be nice to give ye a look at the cover art, so here they are, the Front cover, the Back cover, and the Inside. All art is by RMCM, see contacts page. 17th February '00
Some stoodio photos are up in the Bizarre section. Preparations are on-going for the CD packaging. The artwork is complete, and will be published up here in due course.
There is, however, some issues that still require some ironing out, relating to what tracks are included on the CD, to be sorted at the Pure Nu Practice this weekend in the Temple of Doom. 16th February '00 Howdy how there, welcome to the show. Tonight, our naked chef will be undressing salads, glazing cherries, tasting juices and a whole plethora of other exciting and
delicious dishes. Stay tuned. We'll be rrright back after these messages.... Apologies, that is my day job. A little bit of news then, well, the Nancy's gig has been
confirmed for Wed, March 22nd. In the weeks running up to this, we are working on the mcd packaging etc. Next weekend will see some discussions, hopefully clarifying exactly what will go in the
CD cover, text, layout and such. The MCD will remain nameless it seems, 'self-titled' as it were; we felt that putting a name over the cover art would ruin it really. There is
some possibility that a song from the last recording session ( 'The Second Coming' ) will make it onto the £5 MCD, this writer and drummer recommends 'ABC', as it
stands out over the others in 'pop' value. We shall see. 7th February '00
'Allo, allo, sparrow calling night 'awk, come in night 'awk', is not what you want to wake up to. Nobody we know ever did, so that's ok. Greetings anyway, just a quick progress report that I must di
vulge. PnW had a most excellent practice last Saturday in the Temple of Doom. They had to fight their way in, past all of the trappings that Ernest
brought home from his Asian Experience, he couldn't store all the shite he bought within himself, so into the Temple it went....
It was the first session since the recording, and, to be honest, sounded really well. Lucky really,as they have a gig in Nancy's in Cork, some time in mid March. Between
then and now, the plan is to get some CD's pressed, a cover sorted, and sell, sell SELL our way into Captalist Asia....or maybe Cork.
More photos were recently scanned in, so look out for those soon, they will replace the older ones...the Rockumentary is still in production. 4th February '00
Greetings again, there's now an 'archive' section, which photographically deals with some people and incidents of past and present. Others than PnW feature in this
section, at their lawyers requests, so have a look, you may be there! 3rd February '00 Greetings and gruntings to you all! It has been all work, work, sleep, work around here
recently, and consequently, things in the WoolHome have been quiet. There has been a great deal of interest since we posted a link to Dike's special page, at the bottom of the
Bandits page, though Dike was none too impressed that the knowledge of his Secret Relationships was being made public. If that was so, well then he shouldn't have come
out of the closet. There is, in fact, photographic evidence of Dike coming out of the closet; we'll be posting that here soon. Meanwhile, some news from Ernest. Having finally recovered from his 11th
millenium celebrations, Ernest decided to take some holidays. He packed his perspex roof, and without a care in his underworld, took off for the Far East. He stooped at the Golden
Orient and the Man Fu House on the way, but little else usually hinders an object such as a garage. He is true to his roots/foundations, and will always stop for a chat and a curry with a fellow building.
And so, to start a sentence with a conjunction, Ernest made his way accross Eastern Europe, through the ragged planes of Iran and the Middle East and on to Afghanistan,
Uzbekistan and Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan and Turkmenistan and (briefly) accross to Vietnam for a quick curry, without stopping in
India for very long. Having neglected to get jabs, during his time in Dong Hoi and Dien Bien Phu, he caught mild doses of cholera, yellow fever, dengue fever, typhoid and a
brief spell of polio. The civil engineers in Myanmar said he was lucky not to get maleria. He then spent a bit of time in Burma and Laos, where he got maleria. They
told him he would. When in Laos, he called to see a good pal of his; Stan. Upon his recovery, Ernest made his way to the north of Thailand, (after declaring his
eternal thanks to Stan for putting a roof over his roof), to where he knew he would ultimately be drawn, as a result of his buddhist history, (see below...). Thailand is a
particularly popular destination for buddhist garages, as they like to look at other architecture which is prettier than they are, in the same way that women go to fashion
shows. Ernest aspires to have a spire himself, one day. The north of Thailand provided a pleasant resting place for Ernest. Chiang Mai and
Chiang Rai were his principal ports of call, (one day he decided to go hill walking, and climbed the lofty peak of Doi Inthanon!). However, the temples of the aforementioned
cities were the principal items that he wished to meet. He had the magazines. He had scoured the internet to see them, ( he had met with a mosque that had once been to see the temples), but nothing
could compare with actually seeing and meeting the temples ('Wats') himself.
Chiang Mai, Thailand's second-largest city and the gateway to the country's north, was founded in 1296. You can still see the moat that encircled the original city, and there are 300 wats, including Wat Chiang Man
(home of the 1800-year-old 10-cm-high Crystal Buddha), Wat Phra Singh (built in the classic northern-Thai style) and Wat Chedi Luang (partially ruined by earthquake, cannon fire and recent restoration
efforts). Doi Suthep, topped by one of Thailand's holiest wats, rises 1676m to the west of the city providing a dramatic backdrop. Ernest was overwhelmed. He made lots of friends there, are are two of them: Above is Ernest's pal Yak, and below is Phra Kaew.
Tune in next time for more info on Ernests travels...... 31st January '00
Welcome wool-heads, the news is good. The Rockumentary 'This is Pure nu Wool', will be available by the end of February, subject, we suspect and don't doubt, to heavy editing. Much of the footage is shot in situ at
Secret Garden Studios, and some is shot at far away locations. (Chiefly Dublin shops though, as I am reliably informed by Ace
Reporter and Fimlographer, the-rarely-seen-in-the-public-eye, Kev.).Below is a rarely seen photo of kev, He's the one on the right.
27th January '00 FINISHED!!! Last weekend, at 2am Monday morning, the 24th Jan, they finally completed the
mixing, fair play to Rupert for sticking it out. On Sat 22nd, John B managed to put down his parts quite well inspite of the hand injury. That completed, Dike put down the
vocals and the backing vocals went down at the same time. Mixing began at 7pm Sat night, a little later than planned. The mix on 'Below' was the first to be completed, and
the only song done on Sat night. The following morning, we began at 11am, and got 'Still' done, followed by 'Deadwood', 'Mildred' and late sunday night, finally 'Glue'.
John B had to head off before we finished for his trip back to West england, the rest of us were there till the bitter end. We are happy with the production overall, and there was a few surprises in that the
running order is different from that originally intended : 1) Glue2) Still
3) Below4) Mildred5) Deadwood
Glue was the big surprise , it came out really well, and includes the world's only Fistula solo, from Dave and Tex. Sound samples are now up of the new material.
Tonight, PnW were supposed to be supporting The Frames in Cork, but that was cancelled. They turned down a support slot with Mariah Carey last week due to JB's
hand injury.John likes Mariah. A lot. Thus the hand injury. Thanks to Kevin Speilberg's presence in the studio, a video, 'This is Pure Nu Wool',
will shortly be released, which lets the viewer have a look into the private lives of the Famous Five. It is quite moving, disturbing in places, + has in-depth interviews with the
band members, who share their feelings, and importantly:- their fears of a common foe. Thanks also to the visiting producers who dropped by: Bros, Jennifer Lopez, Yer wan
from the Silver Key, Steven Gately (dike says hi steve!, give him a bell....),Kelly Brook, Caprice, and some others!! A particular thanks goes to Rupert (and also to Wrooburt), who's tireless work is
more than appreciated. We hope that Gretchen is ok. Another sincere word of thanks goes to Anne O Leary for dropping by and playing the many Violin parts for us.
Thanks also to Frank Twomey for the lend of the Taylor acoustic and also to Brian Calnan for the cymbals for the recording. A wooly recommendation: Don't go see The Bone Collector', but if you do, only
watch the parts with Angelina Jolie in them... mmmmmm 21st January '00 Site re-adjustments ( not nessecarily improvements though...)are on-going as usual, and
as PnW prepare to enter the stoodio again this weekend, some ill news has surfaced. John B, in his bid to emulate sporty, has sprained, or damaged his left wrist. Poor
timing unfortunately, given that his guitar parts were due to go down tomorrow. He is, nevertheless, a soldier, and will try to get some work down. Let us hope that John B is able.
In other news, some new photos of the New Years' Eve celebrations are up....be warned....also up is a photo of Dichael's latest hair product, and an interesting sign
Dave and John M saw in Birmingham when they went to see the mighty Black Sabbath, just before the holidays. www.blacksabbath.com
20th January '00 Happy new year! Welcome to the first update of Ernest's 11th Woolenium! Ernest
celebrated in style with family and friends of the Spiritual Netherworld of Garages, in a rich and fulfilling Feng Shui and TupperwareTM party. HE brought some salad and
some little Vegetarian cocktail sausages. Those of you astute enough to notice the date above will notice also then, that PnW, those dwelling within Ernest, (though temporarily they dwell in the Temple of Doom),
are half way through the 'Woolenium' recording session. Upon the eve of Fri14th, the equipment was relegiously teleported from the Temple of Doom, with Ernest's consent,
to Secret Garden Recording Studios, Co Cork. There they beheld Audrey. What a babe. Ten o clock the following morning, John M (sporty) erected his drumkit, and Brother
Ruprecht miked it etc, at 5pm the battery ceased. Tex then put down 95% of his tracks on the bass, the remainder being done on Sunday morning, before Dave put
down his guitar tracks. After Dave completed his work, he collected their sister Anne, to perform as a solo orchestra, she played 18 Violin tracks, which sound magic. John
M completed his electric and acoustic tracks, and John B started to put down his tracks late on sun night:- the remaining Basset tracks will see tape first thing next
Saturday. Our thanks to Kelly Brook and Caprice for dropping by and having the decency to (just about) keep their kits on. Fair play girls. Dike came out of the closet
whilst we were recording on Sat, the event was photographed and will soon see publication on this site, look out....John B also took a few other shots which will go up in time.
Thus far, things have gone very well. After John B finishes next Sat, the lead vocals will be comitted to tape, followed by the backing vocals, and a couple of percussion
tracks, all done hopefully by mid saturday afternoon, leaving Brother Ruprecht a day and a half to mix the mother. ahem..... So the saga will continue after next weekend when all will be revealed, and potentially
exposed. Some sound samples will go up in a couple of formats too so kepp an eye out. 13-Dec-99 Well, resulting from Tex's little outcry against the unfairness of humanity, the upcoming
recording session will include another song, (which is the newest one written). It wasn't originally intended to be comitted to tape, this time around at least, but it is rather
catchy and is the most 'radio-friendly' output yet. 'Glue ' is written by JM, and will the immediate focus of attention. We have arranged the extra day or so with Rupert. 09-Dec-99
Well things really *have* been busy in the site-construction / location areas, we have moved to a new home, as you can see, and are no longer scrounging off our
educational resources. The sounds page now has a few samples up on it, and I believe that a special Tribute to Dichael is being made available soon. site management is now
being shared between the two Johns, contactable through their respective solicitors. More sounds to follow, as well as (hopefully) some audio in streaming format.
Hopefully the equipment scenario will be sorted out by this weekend which should involve some intensive practising, as will each weekend now, in the run up to the mid-January session 07-Dec-99
3/5ths of PnW were experimenting in the Temple last night. A few Buddhist spectres were noticed, but nothing too drastic, other than a few nasty odours. Thanks Dave.
Tex then turned up, shorn, and the others left. Pity really. The sound in there is quite good actually, and things were were very audible. Ear-plugs will certainly be needed
though. The Basset has stated that his effects thingy will be ready to go for the weekend, I personally recommend all to get ear-plugs. Programming issues are nearing
completion, and it seems that two tracks, Below and Deadwood will have programmed drums as well as real drums on them, Mildred won't have, as was
previously thought, the monologue of which still needs considerable attention to rid it of it's 'tacky' qualities.
Dike's solo band, The Big Gay Fun-Boy's Bus
, will be realising the single 'neverending flame' or some such thing soon. Watch out..... 06-Dec-994/5ths of PnW were busy on sat last, all went well except that Ernest's environmental
controls are out of our control: It gets bloody cold out there. Hamlet has come to and end, was was a great success.
In resposnse to the chillyness of Ernest, the operation has since been moved indoors to
The Temple of Doom, which provides a more oceanic/temperate climate. It is, however, with sad loss that we must depart from the Screaming Ghoul for a while, who hasn't been heard wailing for some time now. Ernest is a closet Buddhist, though he doesn't meditate very much due to the fact that he is a building, and is not very flexible.
The Temple of Doom is based on some interesting SukoThai architecture, we evicted the Buddhist Monks from there during evening prayer on Saturday evening when the
portal to their dimension opened; ( it does so once or twice an epoch ).
It was a gruesome affair. False Gods were flying. The senses reeled with the scent of
inscense. The Buddhists were insensed. I sensed this, and hurled cymbals and vicious verbal attacks of assonance at them, as eventually, they yielded to the onslaught, and are:- no more..
In other news, more lyrics have gone up, thanks to TAFKAH again for that, and the monologue in Mildred is still subject to heavy editing, as it is extremely dodgy, and
causes it's author to become nauseated, in the extreme.
By next weekend, it is hoped that the equipment -purchasing spree will have come to a
bitter end, as The Basset will have bought The Board, which will hopefully be on aural diplay next Saturday.
Speaking of aural pleasures, we must all get earplugs, 'cos it's going to be very loud in there.
Wishing Ger O' Leary a speedy response, 'ah stop Ger please'.... 01-Dec-99The lyrics section is nearly complete, with just a few more additions required, hopefully
complete by the end of the week or so. Also, the Gallery of the Bizarre is taking it's hideous form quite nicely. Thanks to TAFKAH (The Artist Formerly Known As
Hedge) for supplying some lyrical knowledge and corrections on the phone today. 29-Nov-99 On Saturday last, Ernest played host to the dynamic quintet for another session of aural
pleasure. Much progress has been made, and all are pleased with the general mood. The Screaming Ghoul was nowhere to be heard, headlines have recently reported her
wherabouts as being somewhere along the banks of the Nile, close to the Valley of the Fiestas, and the neighbouring Valley of the Kings. We miss her. Like a disease. Or a hole in the head.
In other news, Ernest's resident thesbian has been proclaimed as being 'clarity itself ', high praise indeed for his current role in 'Hamlet', as the nasty King of Denmark, Claudius.
There is much rumor surrounding the Valley of the Fiestas page, which is due to be launched in its full glory soon. It is also true to say that some photos, a select selection
if you will, shall be published in the Gallery of the Bizarre. This will house some stranger than strange artifacts, and potentially, some artefacts too, which are so hideous
in their appearance as to suggest that they should never see the light of day.......tune in soon..... 20-Nov-99
Following the nearly totally successful transfer of the first two recordings (all except ' Evergreen', which has *sniff* been lost, for eternity it seems...) from DAT to CD,
work has begun in Ernest upon the next installment of aural massage.
Ernest is a little place in the suburbs of vast sprawling metropolis of another suburb of
a major former bog in the south of Eire. Ernest is the colloquial name given to 'that which is covered by a thin perspex roof and is colder than death'. It's inhabitants
include the Ironing Board of the Damned, The Clothes Hangers of Hades, not to mention the Tumble Dryer of The Styx. Close to Ernest is the Screaming Ghoul, which
cries when the noise is too loud, but we ignore it, since it wants to erect a block of flats overlooking our back yard, no fe**ing thanks Screaming Ghoul!
Ernest has re-enforced concrete floors to cater for the generously girthed occupants and underpants caged within. The Garage Door of Death is likened to a ghastly device
that may threaten the life of Indiana Jones. Ernest hopes to have it's own Ankle Sucker installed soon, after all, Ernest, is very sentient.
During some of the more chilly days of the upcoming January,(the first January of Ernest's Eleventh Millenium) the group of intrepid idiots will relocate to the dungeons of
Secret Garden Studios, to lavish in the sickly cleanliness, comfort and relative warmth of Rupert's little studio. There, shall they spend 3 days, no more, no less, 3 is the
number, and the number shall be 3. (Maybe 4 days if needs be; and if they can print some tender in time).
