11th Hour

A puzzle-filled haunted mansion, built by Stauf, who heckles you on your journey.  It was difficult getting it to run on Windows XP, but I’m happy I did.  It’s great reliving a classic.  And no, I still can’t beat the microscope puzzle!

A continuation of the Stauf horrors, in which a new plot thickens.  A reporter decides to investigate disappearances and their link to this mansion.  The rest is history.

Baldur’s Gate

Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn

Enter the Forgotten Realms and play as a fighter, cleric, mage, druid, etc.  Learn and cast spells at your foes.  Find up to five teammates to blast away the enemy forces.  To this day, I love this game.  The expansion, Tales of Sword Coast, is an excellent addition with new adventures for the team.

Your main character journeys south to Amn but they are ambushed and separated.  Pulling the pieces back together with all the intrigue makes this a challenging game.  I enjoyed the interactions between the other characters on your team.  The expansion, Throne of Bhaal, did not expand the game as much as I would have liked, though it certainly brought things to a dramatic end.

Zork

Zork Nemesis

The old text-based adventure lives on!  Visit Infocom and download the adventure today.  I have yet to put in the time to beat the game, but it certainly does remind me of the old days on the Commodore 64 with such adventures as Zork, Suspended, and the Hobbit.

I found this to be a fun challenge that dove into the realm of alchemy, a personal favorite.  I enjoyed the puzzles, the visuals, and the overall story.  This was a well-done piece.

Guild Wars

My first MMORPG.  I enjoy it quite a bit.  I decided to dive in because this one has no monthly fee.  I must admit, though, that I haven’t fully embraced the whole online gaming phenomenon.  I am ever reluctant to join up with strangers for quests.  I’ve had good experiences when I’ve done it, but I still keep hesitating.  It would be some much more fun to team up with friends and go into battle.  Still, the story is good.  I like the graphics, though the spells are not very detailed visually.  My Elementalist/Mesmer can summon the Phoenix to blast surrounding enemies and baddies that are some distance away – but you don’t actually get to the see the Phoenix.  :(

Which way should I …go now?
