Christian Fiction Authors

Christian Fiction was for years stuck in a rut and every book you read seemed way too familiar. While there is still a lot of traditional (mostly historical) Christian fiction being produced, there is also a lot of new stuff. Christian fiction authors are adding suspense, drama, and indepth soul-searching to their plots. It is like an entirely new field. Now I happen to like traditional Christian fiction in moderation, but even if you don't, try the new stuff. You will be surprised how different it is. Now you can browse this page, or skip to the specific author you want:

Ron & Janet Benrey

These are Christian fiction cozy mysteries set in a British tea museum. The main character is a transplanted American who has just become curator of the tea museum in the first novel. The books are full of great tea lore, great characters and great plots. The Benreys publish another series (Pippa Hunnechurch), which are seriously some of the most BORING books I’ve ever read. I have seldom cared less who was the murderer. But the tea museum series is just wonderful, so I guess their topic helps them write better.

Mindy Starns Clark

These are Christian mysteries. They are suspenseful with incredible characters.

The Million Dollar Mysteries

Callie Webber is a private investigator, who is hired to check out charities who are applying for grants from the JOSHUA foundation. The books chronicle her charity investigations and the crimes that she discovers along the way (by the way, while the crimes are usually somehow related to the charity, the charities themselves don't comes out looking bad). It is also the story of her journey to recovery and new love after the death of her first husband. Tom, who is behind the JOSHUA foundation, starts out as a very mysterious character, who you slowly get to know as Callie does.

A Penny for Your Thoughts

Her column is facing trouble as her circulation is rapidly dropping and her finance runs out on her in the first book. In the course of the series, Jo works to improve her column through new avenues (like a blog) and straighten out her personal life after the broken engagement with the help of her best friend, Danny.

Kristen Heitzmann

These are a combination of suspense and in depth Christian fiction. Heitzmann really manages to deal with some pretty heavy topics. Be warned – many of these will make you BAWL. She also writes historical Christian fiction series, which I don’t read, but you can if you want. I just don’t have them listed.

Rese Barrett

Lance Michelli went looking for answers about his grandmother’s past and met Reese Barrett in his quest. The two books deal with their search for answers from the past.

Secrets
Unforgotten

Morgans

These books deal with two brothers as they face life and love. The second book really shows what the trauma of abortion can do to a man, rather than the traditional focus on the woman.

Dee Henderson

These are great Christian fiction. BUT they are not typical Christian fiction, so even if you don't normally go for this type of fiction, still try this out. There are great suspense plots, a little romance and a great spiritual message in each one of these. They are truly awesome for the expansion of an genre that sometimes falls into the same repeating stories. These are definitely worth the time to read.

The O'Malleys

The O'Malleys are a family by choice. They were all orphans who choose to form their own family. They all are in "rescue" professions of a sort. These are the stories of each member of the family fighting their own past to come to Jesus as the youngest battles cancer. Have a box of tissues ready before you start reading!

Danger in the Shadows
The Negotiator
The Guardian
The Truth Seeker
The Protector
The Healer
The Rescuer

Uncommon Heroes

The first three follow the lives of various members of a SEAL team as they come closer to Jesus and the people in their lives. The last one doesn't relate to the other three.

True Valor
True Honor
True Courage

Janette Oke

This is traditional Christian fiction, but darn it, it is good! These are heart-warming stories that are good for any age from 10 to 100. A lot of the books are set on the Canadian frontier, but wonderful no matter which side of the border you come from. Her series bring to life wonderful characters and far off frontiers from the past. She also has many great children's stories that I don't have listed here (as well as other series). I don't believe she's still writing, but they are always republishing her old books.

Canadian West Series

This is about a Canadian Mountie and his wife. They are sent far into the frontier and have to struggle to keep order and understand their new Native neighbors.

When Calls the Heart
When Comes the Spring
When Breaks the Dawn
When Hope Springs New
Beyond the Gathering Storm
When Tomorrow Comes

The Clarks

This is actually a couple of series (Love Comes Softly and Prairie Legacy, I think), but they follow the Clarks, a frontier family. First off - do NOT watch the Hallmark movies made of this series. The movie producers played VERY fast and loose with the plot and it REALLY annoys me. These are simple tales of overcoming hardships on the frontier. Nothing special, but I reread them once a year because the characters are worth it.

Love Comes Softly
Love's Enduring Promise
Love's Long Journey
Love's Abiding Joy
Love's Unending Legacy
Love's Unfolding Dream
Love Takes Wing
Love Finds a Home
The Tender Years
A Searching Heart
A Quiet Strength
Like Gold Refined

Other Novels

Roses for Mama
Heart of the Wilderness
The Calling of Emily Evans
A Woman Named Damaris
They Called Her Mrs. Doc
The Measure of a Heart
A Bride for Donnigan

Lauraine Snelling

This is wonderful Christian fiction. Her historical series set in North Dakota is truly magnificent. She also writes children's stories, but I haven't read any of those. Her books are so indpeth - they make you cry, laugh and want to know so much more about the characters. Her books are must-reads. My grandmother and I got to meet her in Drayton, ND a couple summers ago and she is a wonderful lady on top of writing excellent books!

Red River of the North

Set in the Red River Valley of North Dakota at the end of the nineteenth century, this series tells the story of a family as they struggle to homestead in the wilderness. This is actually three different series, but they all follow the same family (the Bjorklunds), so I put them all together in my mind.

An Untamed Land
A New Day Rising
A Land to Call Home
The Reaper's Song
Tender Mercies
Blessing in Disguise
A Dream to Follow
Believing the Dream
More Than A Dream
A Blessing for Ellie

Sophie's Dilemma

Other Novels

Dakota (Four short stories)
The Healing Quilt

Upcoming Releases

A Touch of Grace on March 1, 2008 (Blessing)

Susan May Warren

These are suspense-filled Christian fiction. She also writes straight Christian fiction, but I don't like it as much. The series I have listed are all gripping and will keep you continually guessing.

Team Hope

I simply ADORE this series and really hope she goes back and finishes it! Team Hope is a group of friends who have banded together as a Search and Rescue team. All the characters are so in depth and wonderful!

Waiting for Dawn (this is a short story and available free through Heartquest)
Flee the Night
Escape to Morning
Expect the Sunrise

Deep Haven

This is set in a town in Northern Minnesota and focuses on different members of the town and their efforts to solve the issues in their lives. These are much closer to traditional Christian fiction than the other two series.

Happily Ever After
Tying the Knot
The Perfect Match
Hook, Line, and Sinker
(this is an online serial available through Heart Quest)

Heirs of Anton

This series actually goes in reverse, starting with the most modern descendent and working backwards. The Russian culture in the book is extremely well done, which considering Susie and her family lived there for awhile, is to be expected.

Marina
Oksana
