Romance Authors

I am not a big fan of romance, but there are some romantic suspense authors that I do like. I also admit to liking to read the pure romance stuff from time to time just for the unthinking quality of that type of reading. You can either browse this page or jump to a specific author:
Lowell, Elizabeth
Roberts, Nora

Elizabeth Lowell

These books are a combination of suspense and romance. Her books keep you guessing to the last page and unable to put the book down. I only like some of them, though - goes with my not really into Romances, but she does have a few really great series. She also writes under several other names (her actual name is Ann Maxwell and she uses that and A.E. Maxwell at times).

Donovan Series

This series follows the Donovan siblings and the gem world. Each is a self-contained plot with a lot of detail and suspense. You do get to see the other characters from time to time. I wish Elizabeh Lowell would go back to this series and do the other siblings!

Amber Beach
Jade Island
Pearl Cove
Midnight in Ruby Bayou

Rarities Series

This is another series set in the gem trade. This follows a company rather than a family and keeps you involved to the last page. These characters slightly overlap with the Donovan series.

Moving Target
Running Scared
Die in Plain Sight

Other Novels

Eden Burning
This Time Love
Tell Me No Lies
Always Time to Die
The Color of Death

Nora Roberts

I love Nora Roberts - almost all of her books are wonderful. Her series have great plots and characters. Her full length novels are gripping and the characters totally irresistible. There are only a few of her books that I didn't adore. Currently her publishers are re-releasing her backlist. Some of these are not that great - she has definitely grown as a writer since her days of serial romance. I usually end up buying them because of her name, but they just aren't what I've come to expect from Nora Roberts, so learn from my mistakes (I am getting better at spotting these and Nora has has added a symbol to new books to help you out - you can see it on her website)! As her note, her books have been getting progressively more "fantasy" oriented. As I note elsewhere, I am not a big fantasy fan, but she makes it worth it.

Three Sisters Series

These are set in Massachuetts and are about three witches and their fight against evil. The "fantasy" aspect (the magic) is the plot, but the characters make it well worth the time.

Dance Upon the Air
Heaven and Earth
Face the Fire

The Circle Trilogy

I really was unsure of this series - which is about a battle against vampires, but the characters won me over again. I am currently reading the last of this series (it just came out on Halloween).

Morrigan's Cross
Dance of the Gods
Valley of Silence

In the Garden Trilogy

This really is a traditional ghost story set in a gardening store. The ending does throw a little twist in, though. Stella, the main character of the first book, is a woman after my own heart - she reminds me of myself!

Blue Dahlia
Black Rose
Red Lily

Key Trilogy

Three women have to find three separate keys that will unlock three imprisoned princesses from another world. It is set in Pennsylvania. Dana, the main character in the second book, is a librarian - that made me smile!

Key of Light
Key of Knowledge
Key of Valor

Gallagher Series

This is set in Ireland, so the fairy story that goes with it plays very well. Three siblings (the Gallaghers) each have to find and accept love to set free a fairy princes and his human love (who is now a ghost).

Jewels of the Sun
Tears of the Moon
Heart of the Sea
Christmas in Ardmore
(this is a short story available for download on Nora's site)

Chesapeake Series

Set in Maryland, this tells the tale of three adopted brothers and their struggle to raise their father's last foundling, Seth, and protect him from his maniac of a mother. The last book is Seth's story. Sea Swept
Rising Tides
Inner Harbor
The Quinn's Christmas
(this is a short story available for download on Nora's site)
Chesapeake Blue

Dream Series

Three old friends, who were raised like sisters, are brought back together as they start up a secondhand story in California. The trilogy also includes the search for a lost dowry of a 19th century woman who supposedly killed herself.

Daring to Dream
Holding the Dream
Finding the Dream

Irish Born Series

Set in Ireland, this tells the story of three women who learn they are sisters and learn about their parents' past.

Born in Fire
Born in Ice
Born in Shame

MacGregor Series

This series follows the MacGregor clan, as the patriarch, Daniel, works to marry them all off. These are humorous and enjoyable and not at all deep.

Playing the Odds
Tempting Fate
All the Possibilities
One Man’s Art
For Now, Forever
Rebellion
In From the Cold
The MacGregor Brides
The Winning Hand
The MacGregor Grooms
The Perfect Neighbor
