WELCOME TO THE QUT LIBERAL CLUB WEBSITE!

The Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Liberal Club proved it's dedication to the Libertarian cause throughout 1999 by participating in the battle for Voluntary Student Unionism (VSU). VSU Legislation was passed through the House of Representatives in June of 1999 but block in the Senate by the Democrats, the ALP and Senator Mal Colston. VSU would have allowed students to opt out of membership in their Student Unions, saving money on the considerable Union Fees for services that are not used. Our fight saw us manning information booths, supplying information about VSU to QUT students, and pooling information about the QUT Student Guild (QUTSG) with Liberal Clubs around Australia to support the efforts of the Australian Liberal Students' Federation (ALSF) to pass the Legislation.

THE BATTLE CONTINUES IN THE YEAR 2000!

The QUT Liberal Club is one of the most active Liberal Clubs in Australia and at the 1999 ALSF National Conference we were the best represented of the Queensland Liberal Clubs. We have already planned several social and political functions, such as tours of QLD Parliament House, opening of year drinks, and several functions with Federal, State and Local members of parliament, for the first semester of 2000. Our Club Patron Senator Brett Mason is a regular at Club meetings and a great supporter of Club activities. In 2000 the QUT Liberal Club is preparing to continue promote Liberal policies on campus particularly with the Brisbane City Council elections coming up in March. If you are interested in being part of the Club feel free to contact us by email and we will send you information on our activities and how you can help. Come and see us during O'Week.
