Growing a Community

The 26th of April was a truly of students went out on this day to participate in tree planting and the cleaning up of an area of Black Creek immediately outside the school. It was indeed a messy and tiring job, but that was surpassed by the satisfaction of making a small difference in the community.
With the help of The Conservation Authority, 150 students participated in the tree planting and cleanup activities. One hundred and ten trees were planted along the bank of the creek at a nearby park. Many thanks to The Conservation Authority for supplying the materials for planting, as well as gloves and other tools for garbage picking.
Over of 110 students participated in collecting more than 15 bags of garbage. Shopping carts, a bicycle and even an old washing machine were pulled out of the creek. It seemed like everything but the kitchen sink was dumped into the creek. Such a small cleanup in a large community may seem insignificant, but that may be just enough to get people's attention. Seeing a community show care for the environment may get more people to consider their actions. It took over 100 students to clean the creek, but it only takes one person to make a difference.

This year marked an amazing season for our Badminton team. This year was the first time Romero participated in a badminton league. The team had some important victories vs. PCA and De La Salle. Although the quarterfinal game was lost to Charbonnel, the team placed between 5th and 8th, a great achievement.
On Tuesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 12, the badminton team played the TDCAA tournament held at Humber College. This year marked many new rising talents, whom represented our school. Our first year Bantam mixed doubles team of Laura Bruce and Sammy Macri placed an impressive fourth place, surprising many of their opponents with challenging matches. On another high note, our junior girls doubles team of Janet Saliba and Natalia Sosniak also place fourth, advancing to the senior tournament.
Our Bantam team consisting of Christine Carrasco, Samara Cambanes, and Andrea Leon played with a lot of heart, showing great promise in becoming Romero's future stars. Honourable mentions go out to Jose Lopes, Nikita Pilgun, Curtis Peters, Hannah Brock, Catherine Carrasco, Linda Martins, Richard Lima and Carlos Bellorin for well played matches. Many thanks go out to Mr. Carino, Mr. Cassano, Mr. Vellathottem, and Mr. Rumazza for their hard work and continuous support. We're all looking forward to next year.

Are you in perfect uniform?

The Student Leadership Council has come up with a great way to encourage the students of Romero to be in Perfect uniform. Certain members from the council are going around the school picking out those students who are dressed in full uniform. Those students will receive a perfect uniform recognition ticket with their names, which will be entered in a draw held at the end of the week for a chance to win a prize. What is the Perfect Uniform? Romero shirt, tie and grey pants, black dress shoes or kilt. Shirts must be tucked in and tie done up.
This is an opportunity for all the students of Romero to participate in an all win race for a prize for being in perfect uniform.
