A look into Canada's history
THE BATTLE OF VIMY RIDGE
When you look back into Canada's history, you'll see that the battle of Vimy Ridge was one of Canada's greatest accomplishments. The battle of Vimy Ridge occurred between April 9th and April 12th of 1917. During World War I the Canadian corps was sent to Vimy France, to force the German's out of Vimy Ridge and claim the area back for France. The task of the Canadians was to take a portion of the Ridge as well as two important hills where the Germans had built their defence. By April 12, the Canadians were successful and had captured the Ridge.
The battle of Vimy Ridge is one of the greatest battles in Canada's history. Vimy Ridge proved to be a turning point in World War I. Canadian's fought exceptionally well and were awarded for the Victory Crosses. This was the first time that Canadian's fought as a single unit. Many people see Vimy Ridge as one of the most important landmarks on the road to Canadian nation hood. Due to Canada's great victory, France gave a large portion of Vimy Ridge to Canada, to honour all the courageous Canadian soldiers who fought at Vimy Ridge.
To this day, Canada still continues to celebrate the victorious battle of Vimy Ridge.
