The signing of the sister club agreement between our Mother Club, Rotary Club of Tai Po and the Rotary Club of Taipei in 1999, paved the way for the signing of the sister agreement of our club that same year.

Our first meeting was to be in Dec1999 in Taipei, where five of our members (IPP Henry, PP Leslie, PP Sally, Mark and Ah Man) plus our advisor, Rotarian Donald, attended our Sister Clubs Charter Celebration.  Members traveling to Taipei were filled with mixed feelings: a sense of fear from not knowing what to expect, yet at the same time a sense of excitement to see if our pre-conceptions of our sister club were correct.  Upon our arrival in Taipei, we were to discover that our fears and worries were to be unwarranted.

The trip turned out to be the most enjoyable trip to Taiwan - the hospitality and friendship that developed is unbelievable.  Since this first trip, we have been fortunate to reciprocate their hospitality by having a group of six members (PP Polly, VP Max, Adam, Charlie, Marie, Celia, Ric) come visit us in Hong Kong.  Some members even came twice - the second trip being this past July (2003) to attend our 6th Installation Ceremony.  Currently, we are in the midst of planning a second trip to Taipei this coming Christmas!

The most wonderful thing that the sister club agreement has brought to me personally, is a group of friends, one which I dare say, would exist even without the continual backing of Rotaract, but ironically would not have existed without it.  Therefore, I am grateful for the opportunity to meet so many superb people, and hope that you too will be able to join us in this endeavour to meet and make new friends!
