Dragonlance History | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In 8700PC, Reorx God of the Forge took some humans to be taught his craft. Most humans at the time were living meager lives or under the heel of the Ogres as slaves. The humans that Reorx educated in the ways of the forge were turned into Scions in 3100PC by the Graygem. Scions were golden skinned short folk with magical power, most of them were killed off by humans and few survived. Some of the remaining Scions again meet with the Graygem 151 years later (2900PC) when they were turned into Dwarves. It is unclear how the former Scions dispersed upon becoming Dwarves. The first Dwarven organized civilization was a great one, they called themselves the Calnar. The Calnar delved a place called Thorin (which is north east of present day Thorbardin, in the Khalkist Mtns). In Thorin the Dwarves ascended to great success in smithing, culture and created such well fashioned metal work that they opened up trade with surrounding humans towns. The Humans traded rich ores for fine workmanship. Unfortunately the Calnar city fell to a jealous humans who attacked Thorin because they felt the earth below it was the Dwarves key to success. Some Calnar stayed to rebuild their once great city after defeating the humans; their leader Colin Stonetooth left with the devastation to seek out a new place because Thorin was dead to him, as was one of his sons. Far to the south west, in a place called Kal-Thax, the Calnar discovered four clans of Dwarves warring with one another and trying to keep human raiders out at the same time. Theses were the Daergar, Daewar, and Theiwar and Klar. The Calnar organized all the clans into a single city under the Kharolis Mtns of Kal-Thax, which was discovered by the Daewar. They set up a Thanedom where each clan was represented by one and all the clans ruled over the whole Dwarven Nation. The Calnar taught these Mountain Dwarves many secrets of things like sun tunnels, harnessing the power molten rock and more, and the other clans taught the Calnar some of their own innovations also. All the clans had a job under the mountain and it kept growing with few sub racial fights. The city was named Thorbardin, the Calnar also took a new name, calling themselves the Hylar; some Calnar/Hylar preferred the forest to the mountains and lived outside of the mountain, they were the Neidar. They found roaming Dwarven clans called Einar who were given the choice to live with them or under the mountain. The Neidar provided timber to the Mountain Dwarves and protection/alerting of human raids. Thorbardin eventually solved the problem of humans raids by becoming an impregnable fortress to outsiders and walled itself within the mountains. The Dwarves also set up trade with surrounding humans because of the demand for their excellent craftsmanship. Within the center of Thorbardin exist the Life Tree, a living stalactite where the Hylar live. Surrounding it is the Urkhan Sea which stretches 7 miles north-south. **This is a very brief synopsis of Dwarven history as it is a rather long one. They have had the seat of High King held the most of all the clans. Hylar can get quite tall for Dwarves. They have light brown skin and usually have brown, black, gray or white hair. The Hylar live in the Life-Tree of Thorbardin, called Hybardin. Their excellent knowledge of construction allowed them to live inside the gigantic stalactite, an example of their expert "rock knowledge" is sun tunnels which reflect the sunlight outside Thorbardin inside the mountain. |

Before the Calnar came to bring order to the Dwarves of Kal-Thax, the Daewar were at war with the Daergar and Thiewar. Their other characteristic that kept them alive back then was their formidable battle prowess. For the most part they are not greedy as thought to be, they merely think wealth should be flaunted; most of them are merchants. The Daewar founded the area later named Thorbarin by delving an immense tunnel to it under the Kharolis Mtns. |

They are Dwarves of all the clans who chose a life in the forest rather than a mountain. Initially theses Dwarves worked with their cousins in Thorbardin serving as scouts and supplying timber to clans inside the mountain. Soon though bloodlines grew thin and Mountain Dwarves and Hill Dwarves began hate one another. Up to the point of the Dwarfgate War, where the Mountain Dwarves defeated the Hill Dwarves in a bloody battle. Their seat on the Council of Thanes sits empty. Like Daewar and Hylar they are good Dwarves. |

Daergar live in a society where leaders are replaced through a challenge in combat, or assassination by various means. Daergar leaders live long by killing off challengers before they meet in the ring to battle for Thanehood. They employ assassins to do away with potential threats that may knock them off. In Daerbardin and Daerforge, turning your back on anyone can mean death. These Dwarves live in total blackness and hate the light and the Hylar greatly. Although in some instances Daegar and Hylar have married. In the time of the Calnar these Dwarves wore face masks with slits to see through to aid in seeing during the day outside under the sun. The Daergar are known for very good mining techniques. They also carry blades that are black not shiny like steel so they don't reflect light. |

They are more scheming and cunning in their methods to further their own interests. They are pale Dwarves with large eyes easily setting them out from other Dwarves, along with their slightly longer arms. Theiwar are not known for much in terms of mining or killing as their close dark cousins, but they can do something no other Dwarves can, and that is wield magic. Since magic is disliked and disbelieved by all other Dwarves so are the Thiewar, only the Daergar freely associate with them. The Theiwar live in Theibardin which is not well delved like the other cities of Thorbardin. |

Due to being exiled by the other clans because of insanity they began to inbreed. The Dewer clan has few sane members among it. The Zakhar are dark Dwarves like the Dewer but in far worse condition. After being beaten by the Daewar they somehow contracted a decaying disease like leprosy which left them beaten and now gravely ill. The Daewar offered them a choice to swear allegiance to them or be exiled...they chose to be exiled from Thorbarin... |

The Klar live mostly on the banks of the Urkhan Sea but have no name for their city as the other clans do. In the beginning of Thorbarins existence the Klar had an affinity for harnessing the power of Tractor Worms which they used to "till" rock. They are quite unorganized in battle and have no skill for strategy what so ever. In the time before the Calnar came the Daergar persuaded them to join forces in battling the Daewar. They also serve as servants and workers to other clans like the Hylar. |

A rare site is seeing one of these beings with the ability to count past 3 (only 2 have been recorded to). Living in anyplace on Krynn practically, but preferring rat infested areas so food is plentiful. They are quite a revolting site. They live in Thorbardin too though, outside and under Daerbardin in what they call Agharhome. They are shunned like Dewer but disrespected greatly due to their stupidity. They have a seat on the Council of Thanes, but their leader the Highbulp rarely shows. The Aghar make they way through life groveling at the feet of other beings. Gully Dwarves are also servant in many places serving in menial jobs. |
