happy as they could be and she bore him three children, two sons and a
daughter. Everything was fine until the Seanchan invaded. For the most
part after they came through nothing changed, they just promised to swear
some oath about waiting and obeying or some such and went on with their
lives. As it turns out the Seanchan have a fierce sense of pride. Once
while Ean way away for a few days at market, a patrolling raken set down
on his farm. There was a der Sul'dam traveling with the raken scoping the
lands and showing their conquest off to her damane. Ean's wife Clara
tried to be as gracious as she could but their son Bin, an eight year old
lad, got caught snickering and sharing jokes about the funny lady's
clothes. When he was harshly reprimanded for it he spat on her skirts.
The der Sul'dam exploded in a fury of indignance and demanded that the
impertinence be punished. The family was wholly killed and the farm
burned. When Ean returned he found only ashes and corpses. He spent
several weeks mourning his family and seeing them properly buried. When
he finally worked up the nerve to go back to the town where he'd been
when
it all happened he found out about the Sul'dam's rampage. When asked if
he try to get revenge Ean only responded solemnly, "no my family is dead
and more killing wouldn't bring them back any more than me wishing it
were
true. But I'll be a light-blinded fool if I'm to stay around here." So
he left.
