In the hallways, students are going about their business; playing Cat’s Cradle, reading books, and fixing each others clothes.
But beyond what is normal school activity, Marshall, Josie, Lucas, Corrine, and Professor Zachary walk into Professor Zachary’s office. The gravity sensor is picking up strong readings. Josie concludes that Victor is doing more tests and the wormhole will be opening. Josie tells the others that she is going to go back through the wormhole to find Vaughn, as she stands on the middle of the floor. They all object, Professor Zachary adding that the wormhole is unpredictable and that they need to gather more facts about it before they attempt anything reckless like when Lucas, Corrine, Marshall, and Vaughn went back into the past to rescue Josie in 1879 which lead to Vaughn being trapped in another time. Suddenly, the wormhole opens and sucks Josie in. Professor Zachary swiftly grabs Josie’s hand and the rest of them pull Professor Zachary. Their efforts are futile as Professor Zachary loses his grip and Josie falls through the wormhole.

“Lucas, your gravity sensor is doing the Macarena again” - Marshall

“Josie, we’ll solve this mystery but we’re going to do it like real scientists. Not like mad cap rogue scientists.” - Professor Z, stumbling to find the right words, to Josie.

Josie emerges in the Science office. The calendar indicates that the date is April 11, 1977. Josie remembers that this is a day that she has already visited. It is the day that Vic Pearson steals the chi gong ball from her on her first trip to 1977 (episode: Fate). As Josie heads for the door, the door opens. The Janitor confronts her. Josie sighs; she is caught.

“Going somewhere?” - the Janitor to Josie

In the Science office, Professor Z, Lucas, Corrine, and Marshall wonder what to do next. Lucas votes to go after Josie but Professor Zachary quickly shoots down the idea. Marshall adds that they don’t know where to go to look for Josie anyway. Professor Zachary promotes the idea of scientific inquiry – gathering facts, comparing notes, forming a hypothesis. Corrine and Marshall will make a historical profile of the school, hoping that traces of strange events in the past will reveal trends in when and where the wormhole is likely to open to. Lucas will find the equipment needed to study the wormhole.
In 1977, Josie debates with the Janitor. Josie asks him where Vaughn is but he tells her that she could end up hurting everybody if she keeps doing what she is doing. Josie again asks him where Vaughn is but the Janitor again evades the question by telling her that the wormhole’s next opening will be in 1 hour 3 minutes and 12 seconds, 8:05pm, and that she is to go through it. He then walks out. Josie is convinced that the Janitor knows where Vaughn is.

“Things happen for a reason, Josie. Other things don’t happen for different reasons.” - the Janitor to Josie.

Out in the hallway, time stops and Josie2 walks out of a room opposite the Science office to talk to the Janitor:

“She doesn’t listen to you. This is going to go way wrong, isn’t it?” - Josie2 to the Janitor.

The janitor continues to walk on as Josie2 disappears.
In the present, Lucas and Professor Zachary are dressed in blue contamination suits and are each attached to the fireplace by a safety cord to prevent them from falling into the wormhole. In the event that one of them does, the other will be able to pull the other back out. Lucas asks about the possibility of what if they both fall in at the same time to which Professor Zachary gives him a stare.

“That’s crazy. Of course we both won’t fall in.” - Lucas to Professor Zachary.

Professor Zachary continues to explain that they will attach the monitoring equipment to a test object. He then asks what Lucas has come up with for the test object. Lucas presents Professor Zachary with a stuffed bunny rabbit (It belongs to Corrine).

Mr. Bunnypants. - Lucas to Professor Zachary.

“Is this a friend of yours?” - Professor Zachary to Lucas.

Professor Zachary places Mr. Bunnypant on the middle of the floor. They both put on their goggles and hold the safety cord that is attached to Mr. Bunnypants. As soon as they do, the floor begins to warp and Mr. Bunnypants is sucked into the wormhole. Professor Zachary and Lucas pull the cord hard to ensure they don’t lose Mr. Bunnypants as he examines the location which the wormhole has taken him.

“Let’s get hopping.” - Professor Zachary.

Meanwhile, Josie lurks into the Janitor’s residence, looking for the Janitor. Instead, she finds Vaughn. Vaughn tells Josie that the Janitor was waiting for him when he came out of the wormhole in Professor Zachary’s office and that the Janitor told him that he needed to stay put (in the Janitor’s residence). Josie tells Vaughn that the Janitor told her to not go looking for Vaughn. Vaughn adds that the Janitor said that an important event is about to take place and that they could not be allowed to interfere. Josie tells Vaughn that they are at the day when Vic steals the chi gong ball from her; that must be the important event. Josie says that she is going to get the ball back from Vic, so that Victor will not create the device and there will be no accident at Pearadyne.

Vaughn and Josie go into Vic’s room; Vic is not in the room. Josie tells Vaughn that, based on the current time, Vic took the chi gong ball just a few hours ago. Josie searches the desk drawers while Vaughn questions if taking back the chi gong ball is the right thing to do; maybe the Janitor is right. Josie, however, says that she no longer trusts the Janitor because the Janitor did not tell her where Vaughn was. Just then, out in the hallway, they hear voices coming towards the door. They hide in the closet. From the holes in the closet, they watch as Vic and Sarah Lynch enter the room. Vic tells Sarah that there is something that he wants to show her. From a yellow lunchbox, Vic takes the floating chi gong ball. Vic is surprised by Sarah’s pleased reaction:

“So you are the one.” - Sarah to Vic
    “The one?” - Vic
“This was foreseen, that you would take this from her and bring it to me.” - Sarah

Vic asks what the ball does and how it works but Sarah doesn’t answer, instead replying:

“Now that we have this, we have all the time in the world. All of it.” - Sarah to Vic.

In the closet, Josie and Vaughn are stunned by what they have heard – Sarah already knew that Josie would go back in time and that Vic would take the chi gong ball from her. Sarah quickly leaves the room, urging Vic to quickly follow. Vic runs after her, leaving the door ajar. The Janitor walks up to the door and listens. Out from the closet, Vaughn wants to know why his mother knows the things that she does, about Josie and the chi gong ball. They then wonder if they should take the chi gong ball, which Vic has left behind. The Janitor pushes the door open, scaring Vaughn.

“I have an idea. You should go back where you belong.” - the Janitor to Josie and Vaughn.

The Janitor tells Josie and Vaughn to go back through the wormhole. The next opening will be in one minute and nine seconds. Vaughn quickly leaves but Josie stops to have a few words with the Janitor. She tells him that he lied to her and that she will not trust him again.

“Then all is lost.” - The Janitor, aloud, to himself.

Back through the wormhole, Josie and Vaughn rejoin the present. The Science Club meets together and everyone shares what they have learned. Lucas and Professor Zachary inform them that the wormhole seems to branch off as several wormholes to various locations and times (Professor Z also gives credit to Mr. Bunnypants. Corrine has a surprised look and stares at Professor Z, who brings Mr. Bunnypants back closer to him, as if he has become fond of it, before finally giving it back to Corrine). Marshall and Corrine inform them that there are certain dates in the school’s history that coincide with particular dates the wormhole is prone to lead to, two of them being April 11, 1979, when Victor took the chi gong ball from Josie; and October 4, 1987, the date of the Pearadyne accident, which the core tunnel appears to be focused on. Professor Zachary adds that when a particular place and time is concentrated on, it increases the odds that the wormhole will lead to that date. Marshall sums up the evidence by saying that, because the core tunnel leads to October 1987, the accident at Pearadyne is the key to everything. Vaughn objects to this, reiterating like he has so many times before, that his father is not responsible for everything that has happened. Josie immediately states that he is correct but shocks everyone when she says that she is responsible for everything that has happened. Josie supports her argument by saying that if she had never taken the chi ball to Victor then he would have never been able to power the time device. Vaughn does not agree. Professor Zachary lectures about how they need to do more investigation about the strange events and what their connection is to Pearadyne before any reasonable hypothesis can be made. That seems to put the issue to rest.
That night, Josie is in the Science room. She is staring at the information on the chalkboards, a drawing of the wormhole and a timeline of events, and just thinking. Victor walks up to the door.

“What do you want?” - Josie to Victor
“To say something to you that I never thought I’d say…” - Victor to Josie

Victor thanks Josie for finding Vaughn. She is interested that Vaughn told Victor about what happened.

“At the end of the day, Vaughn is and will always be my son. And despite my personal feelings towards you, I find myself forced to admire your courage.” - Victor to Josie.

Josie rejects the compliment, saying that she was lucky. She stands up to Victor, telling him that someone may fall into the wormhole and be lost forever.

“We live in a world of possibilities, Miss Trent.” - Victor to Josie.
“Maybe. But not if someone stops you.” - Josie, calmly, to Victor.
“And who’s that someone to be! You?!” - Victor to Josie.

Josie walks out of the room, followed by Victor. Josie rolls her eyes as Victor warns her that continued interference with his plans could cause suffering to everyone that she cares about. Josie stops at the landing and turns around. Victor continues, adding that she could especially hurt Vaughn. Josie replies:

“What I’m doing could have disastrous effects? You should look in a mirror sometime.”

Victor, settling down, tells her that she does not understand what is going on. He then walks away. As Josie is about to continue to walk up the stairs, the Janitor walks into the hallway downstairs below her; he is sweeping the floor. Josie overhears the Janitor talking, seemingly to someone. What the Janitor says scares Josie:

“The Josie Trent problem can no longer be ignored. It must be neutralized by any means necessary.” - The Janitor.

In Lucas and Marshall’s room, Lucas, Marshall, Corrine, and Vaughn are sitting around a desk with a laptop on it. Josie walks in, looking worried. She tells them that she thinks that she is in danger. Instead of being supportive, they seem to dismiss Josie’s concerns. Josie then switches ideas. She wants to know everything they know about the wormhole so that she can go back to 1987, get the chi gong ball back, and stop the accident from happening; making everything “the way it should be.” Everyone else objects, especially Lucas, who points out that stopping the accident from happening will trap her in 1987. Everything will not be the way it is supposed to be.

“Cardinal rule: we don’t change the smallest thing about the past.” - Lucas to Josie.

“You guys are severely unbalanced, you know that?” - Josie to Lucas, Marshall, Corrine, and Vaughn.

Later that night, when everyone is asleep, Josie, still dressed, gets out of bed. She looks over at Corrine, who remains still. Josie goes down into the Science office and stands over the middle of the floor. Aloud, Josie says “October 4th, 1987.” Nothing happens. Desperately, Josie utters the date again. Without warning, the wormhole opens and sucks Josie in.

    “Sorry guys.” - Josie.

Josie emerges at Pearadyne in a hallway. Josie walks around the hall and begins to hear Sarah Pearson’s voice. Josie peers into a room and sees Sarah and Victor talking. Between them is a cylinder capsule containing the floating chi gong ball. Victor worries about Sarah and believes that they may be acting too soon. He says that there are still too many variables but Sarah assures him that they are ready. The two of them walk out of the room through a door on the opposite side of where Josie is.

“I can’t believe this day has finally come.” - Sarah to Victor.

Josie then goes into the room. She walks up to the cylinder capsule, which has not been closed yet, and reaches in to guide the chi gong ball out. It glows a golden color as she removes it from the cylinder; once out, it stops glowing.

“It’s over Victor. Once and for all.” - Josie.

An alarm begins to sound (like what was heard in Echolocation) and the two doors to the room close; so does the cylinder capsule which the chi gong ball was in. Josie looks around for another way out but a light slip materializes and Josie quickly steps into it.
Josie steps out into a dusty, old room. Without clearly observing her surroundings, Josie is pleased that her quest to the past worked. She drops the ball. It does not float; it hits the wood floor hard and ominously around a piece of paper that is sitting on the dusty floor. The paper catches Josie’s attention and she picks it up. She is shocked by what it says. She looks around at the room; a subtle atmosphere looms with books on the floor, empty bookcases, desks overturned, and various chairs scattered about. On the whiteboard reads “Bye Bye Blake Holsey R.I.P. 1879-1987”. In denial, Josie realizes that this is what remains of the school.

“Blake Holsey, condemned?” - Josie, reading the paper.

Josie breaks through the boarded up front doorway of the school. There is a grey, cold feeling all around her as Josie walks out to the driveway. The school’s sign has been knocked down. The Janitor and Josie2 are present, watching Josie. Josie2 says that Victor was the good guy and was meant to have the ball; Josie was supposed to bring it to him. That was Josie’s destiny. The Janitor takes off his glasses and he and Josie2 just look at each other, looking like they don’t know what to do. Josie just stares out, looking lost. Up in the sky, a giant vortex swirls.

    “Josie….what have you done?...” - Josie2

    Episode notes:

    • Janitor's secret message: "Interference with an important event causes chaos. When trust is broken, all is lost. Everything happens for a reason."
    • There are three different endings to this episode. The one reported here is what was aired on NBC on March 26, 2005 in the United States.
    Personal thoughts:
Everything all happened in this episode so fast. We come directly from Past, which while serious has a casual friendly feeling, to this one which is rather grim and kind of turns everything that we thought upside-down.
Sarah Pearson knowing all about the chi gong ball makes someone think of a few choice words about her (I don't have to tell you; you know what you thought about her). It also brings up the question if she really loved Victor or was just using him.
Josie's ratical actions are surprising overall. I would think that she should have known better, especially with what happened to her in Fate but then we wouldn't have an episode *heh heh*.
Again, we see Victor's hesitation to run the experiment. We learned in Friction that it was Sarah who pushed Victor into it. It is weird to think that Victor was the innocent one back in 1987.
Overall, I cannot believe this is supposed to be any kind of ending to the show. After watching it and realizing that it was, for a very long time, the last episode of the series (until three episodes finally got confirmed about a year later), I felt rather let down especially since this episode opened up a lot of new doors instead of closing them.
EDIT 03/13/2006: I just noticed that the kids, at the beginning of the episode, were playing Cat's Cradle. In Wormhole2, Professor Zachary uses Cat's Cradle to display the timeline falling apart.
