En España se trata mal a los animales (lo que no debe extrañar porque también se tratan mal los españoles entre sí). Afortunadamente, la situación va mejorando y cada vez más la gente va concienciá:ndose de que el trato a los animales debe mejorar. Pero esta concienzación tiene un gran enemigo en la rutina creada por el toreo. En el toreo no está mal visto torturar y asesinar a un animal, y como muchos españoles -los más atrasados cultural y/o económicamente- están acostumbrados a que haya toreo y ello les parezca normal, la concienciación de que el maltrato a los animales debe desaparecer queda detenida, y seguirá estándolo mientras no se resuelva el problema del toreo. Por consiguiente, el maltrato a los animales en España no puede alcanzar cotas satisfactorias hasta que el toreo sea suprimido. Por ello, la Campaña Antitoreo no lucha solo por los toros, sino por todos los animales que deban ser protegidos. Esta lucha contra el toreo es muy difícil porque la ley no solo lo autoriza, sino que las autoridades ejecutivas lo fomentan y subvencionan, especialmente en las regiones más atrasadas cultural y/o económicamente. Tampoco en las regiones más avanzadas la situación es mucho mejor, y ello se debe principalmente al electoralismo de los politicastros y al desinterés de los medios de difusión. En mi región, en Cataluña, con una población de 6 millones, van por lo menos una vez al año a las corridas solo 40.000 toreístas, menos de un 1%. Pues bien, los politicastros no se deciden a suprimir el toreo para no arriesgarse a perder esos miserables 40.000 votos. La situación en Barcelona es aún más vergonzosa: Con una población de 2 millones en el área metropolitana, y suponiendo que todos los 40.000 toreístas de Cataluña residiesen en dicha área (2% de los votos), los politicastros que gobiernan la ciudad podrían ponerse de acuerdo para prohibir el toreo en la ciudad, de manera que ninguno de ellos pudiese ser castigado individualmente por los miserables 40.000 votos, pero no lo hacen. Y no solo esto, sino que al actual alcalde, Pascual Maragall, se le ocurrió conceder la Medalla de Barcelona a un torero, y tengo un vídeo en el que se ve en un palco de una plaza de toros, presenciando una corrida, a un señor que, si no es Pascual Maragall, es su doble. Los medios de difusión no se sabe si no quieren perderse la publicidad de los empresarios de las corridas en Barcelona -que además explotan otros espectáculos-, o cobran por ello, o son toreístas (muy improbable), pero, por ejemplo estos datos que acabo de dar, no los publicarían -ni gratis, como carta al Director- aunque los asparan. Con semejantes politicastros no es de sorprender que el toreo -es decir, la tortura y el asesinato de un pobre animal, hecho espectáculo- no sea ilegal. La única posibilidad de luchar legalmente contra el toreo es por medio de la legislación protectora de la infancia, que prohibe que los menores puedan presenciar las corridas y similares, y que puedan tomar parte en las mismas como toreros. Esto no sólo es bueno para los niños, sino que es malo para el toreo, ya que, al no poder los padres llevar a sus hijos menores a ver toreo, optan por llevarlos a otro lugar, y el empresario del toreo ve reducida la venta de entradas. Pero no soñemos, porque los politicastros no hacen cumplir estas leyes protectoras de la infancia, la llamada Administración de Justicia no castiga este incumplimiento, y, para colmo, la nefasta Comisión de Derechos Humanos del Consejo de Europa impide que las reclamaciones por tales vergonzosos hechos lleguen al Tribunal de Derechos Humanos del Consejo de Europa, que, con seguridad casi absoluta, condenaría a España por tales hechos. Puede Vd. comprobar esta trágica situación clickando aquí. La lucha contra el toreo desde España es, pues, prácticamente imposible. Mejor dicho, "era", porque ahora, gracias a Internet, ya es posible hacerse oír. Paradójicamente, el Ayuntamiento de Barcelona, pese a la posicíon protoreísta de su actual alcalde, Pascual Maragall, y pese a ser una administración izquierdista, ha creado una sorprendente página web en la que, clickando en "Llibre de Visites", todo el mundo puede dejar su mensaje, sin censura alguna, como puede Vd. comprobar clickando aquí. Este ha sido el primer espacio abierto, que yo sepa, en toda España, y es el que he aprovechado para lanzar mi campaña para pedir la abolición del toreo en Barcelona, primer paso para conseguirlo en toda España. Y no de manera clandestina, sino con toda clase de autorizaciones oficiales (Gobiernos central y autonómico, y Ayuntamiento de Barcelona). Son las corridas de toros, esa anacrónica reliquia del viejo circo romano. La gente civilizada abomina de las corridas de toros y equivalentes "festejos" pese a no conocerlas bien. Hay un vídeo, de 55 minutos, "Proceso a los Españoles, Capítulo I, El Toreo(I)", en español y en inglés, que explica cómo es el toro, cómo y cuándo lucha, cómo es su visión, cómo es la corrida, y, por consiguiente, los trucos del toreo y su crueldad.Y, conociéndolo bien, la abominación es mucho mayor: las corridas son mucho peores de lo que parecen, aunque parezca increíble. Si yo fuese turista, para rato me veían el pelo en Barcelona mientras no se prohibieran en ella esos espectáculos denigrantes. In Spain animals are treated badly (which shouldn't seem strange, because Spaniards also treat badly each other). Fortunately, the situation is improving, and each time the people becomes more conscious that the treatment of animals should improve. But this conciousness has a great enemy in the routine created by the bullfighting. In bullfighting it does not seem bad to torture and murder an animal, and since many Spaniards -especially those of lower cultural and/or economic status- are accustomed to bullfights and to see them as a normal thing, the consciousness of that the mistreatment to animals must disappear remains stopped, and shall continue so as long as the problem of bullfighting is not solved. Therefore, the mistreatment of animals in Spain cannot be improved significantly until bullfighting be supressed. Thus, the Anti-Bullfighting Campaign does not fight only for bulls, but for all animals which should be protected. This fight against bullfighting is very difficult, because not only do existing laws authorize it, but executive authorities encourage and subvention it, especially in the more poor and/or culturally backward regions. The situation in more advanced regions is not much better, and this is mainly due to the electoralism of the politicasters and to the lack of interest of the mass media. In my region, in Catalonia, with a population of 6 million, only 40.000 probullfighters attend the corridas at least once in a year, less than 1% of the population. Now then, the politicasters don't decide themselves to suppress bullfighting for not running the risk of losing these miserable 40.000 votes. The situation in Barcelona is still more shameful: With a population of 2 millions in the metropolitan area, and assuming that all the 40.000 probullfighters reside in the said area (2% of the votes), the politicasters who govern the city could agree in forbidding bullfighting in Barcelona, in order that no one of them could be individually punished by the miserable 40.000 votes; but they don't do it. And this is not all, because to the present Major, Pascual Maragall, occurred to grant the Medal of Barcelona to a torero, a bullfighter, and I have a video in which one can see in a bullring box, attending a corrida, a man who, if he is not Pascual Maragall, he is his double. One does not know whether the mass media don't want to lose the advertisements of the manager of the corridas in Barcelona -who besides operates other shows-, or cash for it, or are probullfighters (what is very improbable), but, for example, the data I have just finished to give would be not published by them -even for free, as a letter to the Editor- even if they were crucified. With such politicasters it is not surprising that bullfighting -i.e. the torture and murder of a poor animal, made a show- be not illegal. The sole possibility of legally fighting against bullfighting is by means of the legislation that protects children, which forbids the attendance of minors to the bullfighting shows, and the performance of children as bullfighters. This is not only good for children, but bad for bullfighting, because, being impossible for parents with minor children to attend bullfights with them, they decide to go to another place, and the corrida manager has his tickets sale reduced. But don't let us dream, because the politicasters don't enforce the said children' protective legislation, the so-called Administration of Justice don't punish these unfulfilments, and, for reaching the "perfection", the funest Commission of Human Rights of the Council of Europe impedes that the applications for such shameful facts be brought before the Court of Human Rights of the Council of Europe, which, with almost absolute sureness, should sentence Spain for such facts. Better said, "was", because, at now, thanks to Internet, it is already possible to make oneself to be heard. Paradoxically, the Municipal Government of Barcelona, in spite of the probullfighting position of its Major, Pascual Maragall, and in spite of being a leftist administration, has created a surprising web page in which, clicking on "Llibre de Visites", everybody can leave a message, without censure at all, as you can comprobe clicking here. This one has been the first open space, as long as I know, in all Spain, and the one I took profit of for launching my campaign asking for the abolition in Barcelona, the first step for reaching it in all Spain. I am a Barcelonian (?), a Catalan, I love my city, but love does not blind me, and I am going to publish its greater shame: Barcelona, which boasts of its cultural level and advance, is really so incult and thirdworldist (?) as to consent in it the torture of animals. And this is not made in a clandestine way, but with all the licenses of the Central and Autonomic Governments and of the same Municipal Government. They are the corridas, the bullfights, these anachronic relics of the old Roman circus. Civilised people abominate of these bullfights and equivalents, in spite of not knowing them well.
