The Kytherian Community has blossomed in Australia with the Kytherian Brotherhood providing an enormous contributions to the local community since 1922. Also for those interested, the Kytherians in Sydney have a soccer team. The team has won 2 titles in its 21 year history and this year is doing very well. I'd like to thank the Kytherians who went to the trouble of providing the world with access to our island's beauty. Whoever has been, knows and feels what Kythira is all about. Not to mention the depression that sets in, when we're away from it all. I long to step foot on the sands of Kaladi and to visit my home in Paleopoli.
My uncle in Greece, Antonis Protopsaltis has an active role in the islands promotion by providing photographs to both Kythiraiki Idea, as well as helping in the organisation of the CD Perasma sta Kythira. (If anyone wants a copy I can help in supplying them with one.) He is also the president of the committee in Mitata (where Giorti Krasiou is held each year).
Lastly, I'd like to express my thanks to all of the people in the guest book who have allowed other Kythirians the opportunity to communicate with them. I'm sure we all follow the same dream.

Έχουμε επισκεφτεί το νησί σας τέσσερες φορές ήδη (1986,89,96,97). Πάντα ερχόμαστε το πρώτο 15θήμερο του Αυγούστου και μένουμε στο Καψάλι στο δασάκι κάτω από το κάμπινγκ, πάνω στη στροφή.
'Εχουμε τις καλύτερες αναμνήσεις από τις περιηγήσεις στο Μυλοπόταμο και την Νεράιδα, τον Αβλέμονα, την Παλαιοχώρα, την Ελέσσα και την Μυρτιδιώτισσα, και το φοβερό πανηγύρι στα Μητάτα!
Αυτό το καλοκαίρι επιλέξαμε να έρθουμε πάλι στο σταυροδρόμι των θαλασσών, τις ίδιες ημερομηνίες, γιατί θα έχουμε μαζί μας και 20 ελληνόφωνους Ιταλούς Πρόσκοπους της περιοχής "Regio di Calabria" (Καλαβρία, Κ. Ιταλία) και θέλουμε να τους δείξουμε ότι πιο ωραίο υπάρχει στην νησιώτικη Ελλάδα.

A Panayiotis Panaretos was in the British Merchant Marine. He entered Boston, MA. from Canada. He made his way to Detroit, MI. in the first quarter of the 1900s, after his nephew Menas Panaretos had lived in Detroit and opened a bar then restaurant there.

This is a great site. I am actually looking for some information on my family. I have greek relations that I am currently looking for. The surname is Lourandoss, and I know that i have a half uncle by the name of Vrertos Gregorious Lourandoss and I also have a half aunt. All I know is that her name is Lula Kasammittis. Regarding my quest to find some family members and the message I left here earlier...
I am writing to say that through the assistance I received from your 'Voyage to Kythera' site and the help of some wonderful people from Kythera and Australia, I have found my cousins' sister on Kythera - and a brother. We found them through the publisher of the newspaper KITHIRAIKA who researched the family after receiving my letter. The sister lives in Fatsadika and the brother is in Livadi. The family here are all very excited.

I'm completely delighted to have encountered this site and would like to congratulate you on a magnificent effort. We love Kythera dearly. Both my parents originate from Livadi although my mother was born in South Africa and came from the Kassimatis - Maragakis family. Her mother's side was Tzane and her maternal grandmother had been Lazaretos. I would love to hear from other Kytherians in the diaspora since very few came to South Africa. My cousins still live on the island and Manoli and George Lourandos - Pieros of the Livadi restaurant fame are my first cousins as are George Fatseas-Mazarakis who runs Kerani rent a car in Livadi and his sister Ritsa Fatseas at the hairdressers next door.

My father Nicholas John Stathis was born in Hora on 7th.Jan.1897 he came to Australia after 1920 and settled in the cooma N.S.W. area. His Mother's maiden name was Elli Andronicus born circa 1856 in Hora and died in 1942 also in Hora. His Father John Stathis b. pre 1867 in Fratsia died circa 1934 in Hora. Dad recieved the 3rd Division War Cross in aug., 1920 "during the campaign for Philadelphia". I would like to find out more about the above mentioned campaign and hear from any possible relations.

I am trying to trace a family member whose family lame is Lourandos. Her father, known in Brisbane Australia as Greg Leon (he changed his name from Lourandos), came to Australia after World War II. He left behind a wife and daughter. She would now be at least 55 years old. He said he was divorced. He married my mothers' sister, Margaret Cuttler and had four sons. In around 1955 his daughter tried to trace her father and the State Police in Brisbane contacted my mother. When they found out that he had married my aunt and had four children they decided it would have been better if his current wife did not find out and told the daughter they were unsuccessful in finding Greg Lourandos.We have only just discovered this. Her four half-brothers now would like to find their sister in Greece.

Congratulations on a wonderful site! I have visited Kythira several times when I was living in Lahi, Lakonia, which is literally opposite Kythira. From '90 to '95, I was involved in local attempts to promote the region and encourage regional and municipal developement. To be honest the local politics and squables made it very frastrating but the new Municipal Council of Vion holds great promise. Last year I managed to get the first Euro-Script workshop, which is part of the EU Media II programme, to be held in Neapoli, Lakonia. It was such a success that it looks like we will be doing it again this year and to save time, will be flying to and from Athens to Kythira then crossing over to Neapoli. I look forward to visiting Cirigo again and hope that our region will be developed responsibly to preserve our unique corner of the world. Your website is a great contribution. Keep up the good work!
