A word from the Archpriest

Dr. Victor Camilleri was the first person in Zurrieq to mount an exhibition of statuettes, miniatures of statues depicting the Passion and death of Our Lord Jesus Christ, carried in procession on Good Friday in many towns and villages throughout the Maltese Islands. Now he has published a booklet about the exhibition.

This exhibition is significant for a number of reasons. In the first place, all the statuttes were made in Malta as were there pedistel and all the other features that make up the exhibition. Secondly, the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus are presented in an original maner. Dr. Camilleri has also linked with this exhibition the possibility of connecting with the events of Holy Week by concretely demonstrating Christian charity especially towards persons most in need.

I wish all who visit the exhibition, this website and read the booklet, joy and peace through the effort and joy of its organisers.

A word from the Mayor.

Dr. Victor Camilleri Good Friday exhibition

ZURRIEQ is well known by one and all for its magnificent Blue Grotto, the Xarolla Windmill, the masterpieces of the famous Mattia Preti in its Parish Church, the very popular traditional feast for its patron saints and now, thanks to Dr. Victor Camilleri's efforts, the Good Friday  Exhibition in Monsinjur P.P. Pullicino Street.

Dr. Camilleri's Good Friday  Exhibition, for the first time puts Zurrieq on the map of traditional Good Friday and Easter celebrations on the Island. Our town never before had such an  exhibition as Good Friday celebrations never dared beyond the walls of our Parish Church.

As a Mayor I fully support Dr. Camilleri's initiative. Zurrieq has a larg enough and talented population to create and support such cultural activity. Now that our historical Xarolla Windmill has been converted into our own Cultural Centre, we sincerely believe that the foundations for a healthier  cultural life in our own town have been laid.   Dr. Camilleri's initiative will eventually be followed by others in spaces sponsored by the Local Council, the Church, clubs and individuals.

The publication of the booklet and this site is a new development which guarantee the exhibition a place amongst the best of its kind on our island. It will increase the the number of visitors and the annual collection which Dr. Camilleri so happily donates to a deserving charity. No fee is charged at the entrance of the exhibition however, every visitor may well wish to offer a donation for charity in appreciation of the expense and work Dr. Camilleri, his family and his friends put in every year to set up and improve their wonderfull presentation of our Lord's passion and death on the Golgota.

I am sure that Dr. Victor Camilleri will continue with his yearly celebration of  Easter. Others will follow his example and many will continue to benefit spiritually and materially from his venture. Zurrieq residents will support him.

Joseph M.Cassar

Mayor of Zurrieq.
