Why We Homeschool |
Most of us who choose to homeschool do so for a variety of reasons. Here are some of our stories. The Volk Family Before we started to homeschool, both my husband and I worked outside our home. We had put our two children in a non-denominational Christian school because our parish school was full, with a long waiting list. I became pregnant with our third child. Early in our marriage, we had agreed that I would stay home with our children when they were small. Without my income, however, we could not afford the Christian school, so we began to look for alternatives. Our local public school did not support our value system, so it was out. We found out that there was a homeschooling group attached to our Christian school, and the more we explored homeschooling, the better it sounded. We have been homeschooling ever since. The reasons that we homeschool now are much different than our original reasons. Homeschooling has helped our family become closer, increased our faith, allowed us to avoid some negative peer influences, and allowed us to tailor teaching to our children's learning styles. It has seen us through two subsequent births, one miscarriage, and a move to a different state. Choosing to homeschool was one decision that I will never regret. |
