Victims Compensation

What is Victim's Compensation?

It can provide you with payment for reasonable expenses resulting from a violent crime. While compensation may not address all of your concerns as a victim, it may help you to recover some actual expenses related to the crime.

Some reasonable expenses are:

- loss of income, that is not covered by Employment Insurance, Worker's Compensation or an insurance plan
- counselling while you are involved in the Criminal Justice process
- Ambulance costs
- clothing damaged as a result of the crime
- medical or dental bills not covered by a medical plan

How long does it take to receive payment?

It can take 6-8 weeks for payments to be provided after an application is submitted.

How do I apply?

The crime must have been reported to police.
Local Victim Services agencies will able to provide you with an application form.

COMPENSATION DOES NOT COVER PAIN AND SUFFERING
