STEP TWO

Prior Preparation

Once you have performed Step One several times, you will have an idea about where there may be an issue that needs healing. This may be a general sensing that something is not completely right with a particular chakra. If you are very perceptive, you may have a well-formed idea of the issue.

As the chakras are associated with specific physical, mental and spiritual functions, I recommend that once you've identified a "problem" in a particular chakra, you do some research on that chakra. This can help refine and sharpen your understanding of the information developed in Step One.

Additional Symbols for Modified Gassho Technique

In Step Two we work with the information developed in Step One to heal the chakras using the modified Gassho technique. In this step, in addition to the symbols used in Step One, you add specific symbol(s) relevant to the chakra and the nature of the problem into the palm chakras and the problem chakra. You then create a Reiki feedback loop - beaming and rebeaming the Reiki energy from the symbol from the palms to the chakra and back again and again. You should spend as much time as you are guided on this step.

If you are working on more than one chakra and have been trained in Karuna Reiki©, you have access to a variety of symbols and can use different symbols for each chakra you are healing. If you don't have these symbols, then you can use the Mental/Emotional, Distant and Power Symbols. If you are a Reiki Level One practitioner, simply intend that Reiki flow and do its healing work.

To avoid repeating the words "Karuna Reiki©" over and over, I will use a shorthand notation to describe the combination of symbols I have found useful. For example, 1KR1 means Level One Karuna Reiki© First Symbol; 2KR3, Level Two Karuna Reiki© Third Symbol.

  1. Base - 1KR4
  2. Sacral - 2KR2
  3. Solar Plexus - 2KR3
  4. Heart - 1KR3
  5. Throat - 2KR1
  6. Third Eye - 2KR4
  7. Crown - 1KR3 and 2KR1

However, there are as many combinations as we can think of. Experiment with other combinations. As well, there is no "magic" to the use of symbols or to any of the techniques described here. All this is merely a framework to be used to tap into the wisdom within. Use what works for you.

Healing as Learning

The stated goal of Step Two is healing. It is important to remember that healing sometimes involves understanding an issue more deeply. You may need this additional information to be able to open yourself to healing. So, as you work Step Two, remain open to further insights into issues that need resolving. Healing, especially of deeply personal issues, is more of a journey than a destination so be gentle with yourself. Don't get discouraged if achieving results seems to be taking a long time.

Benefits of Strengthening the Chakras

In addition to assisting with healing, another result of the modified Gassho technique of rebeaming is to strengthen our chakras. There are two benefits.

First, many Reiki practitioners report that after working with Reiki for a while, they often feel Reiki flowing in their palm chakras outside of directed Reiki work. A similar effect may be experienced with this Practice. As we become more sensitive to our chakras, we may feel them "activate" in certain healing situations. Such occurrences may transmit valuable guidance as to areas or issues that need to be addressed.

Second, while we are typically taught to beam Reiki from our palm chakras for healing work, Reiki does flow from other of our chakras. Some Reiki practitioners have reported becoming aware of this during healing work. Through this Practice, you may be able to strengthen your chakras to the point where you can consciously direct Reiki to flow from them.

Given its connection to compassion and the importance of compassion in healing work, the heart chakra is particularly powerful in this respect. See the article on The Heart Chakra Practice elsewhere on this site.
