Monday, August 19th, 2002 -*insert title here*
Okay, so I slacked-off on Monday. I was... busy or something. But if I had updated on Monday, this is where the text from my DC would have gone. -Zerekile
Tuesday, August 20th, 2002 - Our Next Holiday?
NFL football is big. Real big. But the celebration that will mark the season opener this year is almost too much.
For those who don't follow the NFL as closely I do, on Thursday, September 5th, the San Francisco 49ers will visit the New York Giants to kick-off the 2002 season. To mark this grand occasion (for football fans, anyway) a huge celebration is being held in NYC's Times Square. An expected, 1 million+ fans will gather to watch the game on the Square's giant big-screens, listen to live music and see a gargantuan football fall from the sky (a la the New Year's ball).
Now, I love football and I honestly believe that it's the greatest game in the world BUT even I have to admit that such a celebration is overkill. It is just a game, afterall. Besides, do we really need to inflate egos in a league where players heads are often too big already?
I say, sit-back, enjoy the game, invite a few buddies over and order a pizza, just like you've always done. Opening day is a big deal, when your true passion is football. BUT don't treat the game like it's something more than it is.
Wednesday, August 21th, 2002 - Site news... again
No insightful commentary today. Instead I'll bore you (or maybe this is more exciting) with some site-related info. We'll have an archival system up within a few days for these Daily Commentaries. Starting tomorrow, each one will be saved for later viewing.
We're still working on a number of things for the site (including Bios), but those things will come together over time. If you've got suggestions, send them to us via e-mail or post in the forum. In the meantime, thanks for checking us out.
Thursday, August 22nd, 2002 - Celebrating Square
As a general rule, you should check out the news section before reading what's in this space, just so you know what I'm complaining about. Today, however...
Try as I might, there's not much to complain about. Square seems intent on showering us with exciting news. We'll soon have an all-new Final Fantasy Tactics to play on GBA. As well, Final Fantasy: Chronicle looks to innovate much more than its moniker might lead you to believe (more on that tomorrow).
I am a bit disappointed we're reportedly getting Final Fantasy Adventure instead of Seiken Densetsu 3, which is way overdue. Come on Square, let's see Secret of Mana's lost sequel. Please.
Friday, August 23rd, 2002 - Old name for a new game
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicle. That's the misleading title of Square's GBA/GC experiment.
Here's a quick run-down of reported features so far:
1) It will be playable only if you've got both a GC and GBA.
2) It's much more action-oriented than the mainstream Final Fantasy games.
3) It'll support strong multiplayer modes.
That doesn't sound like a typical FF game, does it? And it definitely doesn't sound like the older 'Crystal-centered' FF adventures.
Digressing from the beaten path is risky for Square. There's the great possibility FF fans will not take to the new formula. But with the risk comes limitless potential; free from the trapings of FF conventions, there's room for innovation. Either way, it's nice to see Square isn't shying away from creating new experiences, even if the title suggests otherwise.

We needed an archive and now we have one. Here you can check out any older entries from our "Daily Commentary" section.
You can find the month you want on the main archive page and then browse specific dates from there. Each page contains 5 days of DC-ey goodness (DC = Daily Commentary, but don't tell anyone).
