8/06/2002- Lots o' Stuff

According to Gamers.com it's a sad day for PS2 owners, as the PS2 port of "Skies of Arcadia" has been cancelled. The Gamecube version is still on track for release later this year.

Ubi-soft has obtained the rights to Super Bust-a-Move 2 and is planning a release for both PS2 and GC. Unfortunately, it brings little innovation to the series featuring only updated graphics a few new play modes (where's my online version, damnit!).

Bioware, the company behind Knights of the Old Republic and Neverwinter Nights, has annoucned that they have two new games in the works, one for PC and one for X-Box. Titles, release dates and gameplay info have yet to be released.

In today's biggest news IBM, Sony, and Toshiba have announced that the design for "Cell", the chip believed to power the Play Station 3, is nearly complete. To give an idea of the raw power of "Cell", it can produce over 1 trillion calculations per second (one teraflop) which is nearly 100 times more than a Pentium 4 running at 2.5GHz. "Cell" could be introduced to market as soon as 2005. For more in-depth info, visit videogames.com

8/06/2002- Sonic's Collection and Snake's First Time

A new story at videogames.com reports that Sega plans to release the "Sonic Mega Colletion" here in the US for the Nintendo Gamecube. The set will come equipped with many of Sonic's best games, including: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Spinball, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.

On more "personal" note, the Hollywood Reporter says that Escape From... series vet, Snake Plissken is set to star in his own game! As a long-time fan of the "series", I truly hope that it will live up to the campy action feel of the movies. An anime and comic starring the character are also in the works.

8/06/2002- Animal Leader Coming Stateside

As reported by gamesarefun earlier, the eccentric Gamecube title Animal Leader is headed to the US by way of Atlus. It will be rebranded, however, as Cubivore. The game follows the exploits of odd cube-shaped animals that eat each other to gain power and change in size and shape.

While probably not the most anticipated game ever, it does possess a weird charm, and if Doshin the Giant and Animal Crossing come to the US soon as well, it will cement the Gamecube as the eccentric game console of choice. I can't wait!
