A Welcome e-mail from civics@GeoCities.com is sent and asked newly signed-up homesteaders to please move into their new homes within two weeks, or their registration will be deleted to make room for another homesteader.
Moving-in means changing the main index page, or the sign-up page, uploading graphics through a very easy-to-use interface, and other similar things to do, like activating your GeoGuide, your guestbook, your counter, etc.
On August 1998, GeoCities created the Inactive Homestead Committee which handles Inactive Homesteads and Not Moved-in Sites. The committee defined Not-Moved-In homesteads as sites that are one month or older, and have used more than 2,000 bytes, along with the default index page or a similar index page with no real content.
These Not-Moved-In sites are sent an initial remind letter, and have two weeks to respond before they are placed in the automatic delete process.
As Community Leaders, we are assigned one block each, and we ensure that the guidelines are followed by the members of our block in the course of our weekly monitoring, averaging from 25-50 sites.
Until such time that all the sites within the assigned block are visited and monitored. When violations of the guidelines are discovered, we report it to Alert Committee, Not-Moved-In Committee, and GeoRemind Committee, all three handles appropriate actions, which includes deletion of such pages.
