Place Value of Digits
Mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division can be easier to do and understand if
you keep numbers in columns as well as rows. When doing calculations
it is important to keep your numbers
in their right columns. These columns are not always drawn
of course
- Single digit numbers like 5
go in the units column.
- With double digit numbers like 10,
have the 1
in and the tens column the
and the 0
in the units column.
- With 100,
the 1 goes
in the Hundreds Column. This shows how digits have their place
value.

Here are some
examples of how numbers can be expanded to show the place
value of their digits
