83-2108 Gibson 1994 A-5G mandolin, 4945049, sunburst, near mint, OH. It bears two labels: the Gibson Master Model label with its l904 to l92l patent dates is visible from the bass f-hole states model, serial number and that this was made in Bozeman, Montana and the label on the treble side states that "The top, back, tone bars and air chamber of this instrument were tested, tuned, and the assembled instrument tried and approved April 4, 1994" and this label was signed by Bruce Weber.

An A-5G (not being made at present) is a simpler version of the A-5L Loar replica, having ivoroid binding on the top only, ebony board and peghead overlay, "The Gibson" in prewar style script, a fleur-de-lis inlay in abalone, closely followed by the much loved bell shaped Gibson truss rod cover (held in place by two screws). This teardrop f-hole mandolin has a black cherry/brown sunburst top and the back has a modicum of flame under the solid brown coloring.

The A-5G is made without a pickguard (if it wasn't good for Bill it ain't good for me). The elevated fingerboard is extended from the 21st to the 29th teeny-weeny fret. The bridge is adjustable, the tailpiece cover engraved "The Gibson" with floral design. Tuners are high quality engraved c'est vous plait (that means the back plates is silver) with pearloid buttons. Although it shows a mere bit of wear here and there if you care to hear the bearish tone that a teardrop Gibson A-5 is more than willing to provide you, this would be the 8-stringed voice of choice. **$ 1438
