| Ah, the Count of Monte Cristo, the greatest of all revenge tales... the Count himself perhaps not be counted as an Evil Genuis for the sole reason that he felt he was doing god's work (although every action and motivation he has qualifies him beyond doubt), but his occasional ally Luigi Vampa, without conscience or remorse for anything at all, was the greatest of all Roman bandits.
A man who can discuss philosophy with his captives before calmly killing them in the morning, who worked his way up from nothing to lead the most feared group of bandits in Europe and be the most successful Robber Baron ever, and who was well-read at the same time. And who could forget his cold, calm, calculated treatment of Danglas at the end of the novel? Definitely deserves to be included in the Hall of Evil Genuises. |
