Map of Achill Island

Achill Island is the largest island off the West Coast of Ireland, in County Mayo. Access is available to vehicles over a bridge which can be "swung" sideways to allow shipping through. Achill is 12 miles wide by 15 miles long, and the population is approximately 2,500.

The full tour around Achill takes about 2 hours, and that's with no stops for taking photographs!

Achill Island is famous for its scenery, from long sandy beaches to the Highest Sea Cliffs in Europe, and Blanket  Bog and Sandybanks in between. The rugged outdoors is a haven for water sports enthusiasts, artists and walkers and climbers. For the less adventurous visitor, there is fine dining and blissfully comfortable accommodation freely available.
