ROCKY MOUNTAIN CHRISTMAS

After years of talking about it, we finally spent Christmas in Estes Park. Our best friends came in from Seattle and spent a week with us at McGregor Mountain Lodge. Things take on a whole new perspective at this time of year. Instead of the afternoon thunderstorms of summer, you have wind. Constant wind. Never-ending wind. The weather in town and at the cabin was pretty nice, but the mountains were usually invisible behind a cloud of blowing snow. In spite of the wind and snow, we managed to get in a couple of short hikes in the Bear Lake area. Most impressive of all was the wildlife. We had bighorn sheep behind the cabin, and herds of elk practically everywhere we went.
