Become a Leader

How do I become a leader?

Becoming a project leader is an excellent way to improve your leadership skills, management skills and to meet new single people! Sign up now by sending an e-mail to Cindy at rochsing@yahoo.com.

Currently, we have two types of leader positions:

  • Project Developer
  • Project Team Leader

If you want to do both assignments, you may. Sometimes, when dealing with organizations, this is the most efficient method.

Project Developers

These volunteers research potential volunteer activities. As a Project Developer, your responsibilities include:

  1. Contacting the charity that expressed interest.
  2. Obtaining the name of the person to contact at the nonprofit organization (i.e. volunteer coordinator).
  3. Finding out what they need assistance with (what the project entails).
  4. Determining if the project is SVR worthy -- Does the project satisfy the following requirements.
  5. If the project satisfies the above requirements, the project developer schedules a tentative project or request information about charity so we can place it on the volunteer list.
  6. Obtain the following information about the project:
    • Determine what volunteers will be doing.
    • Date, time, & how long.
    • Number of volunteers needed. (Note: For every 10 volunteers needed for a project, please arrange for 2 extra volunteers, just in case there are last minute cancellations or no shows.)
    • Location of project, directions, where to park, & where to check in.
    • Additional information - how to dress, will lunch be provided, what supplies are needed (gloves, trash bags, hammer, paint brush, etc.).
  7. E-mail us (rochsing@yahoo.com) with matches and scheduled projects.
  8. E-mail the (below) project information to the webmaster, spmyers98@hotmail.com, for posting on our website. E-mail this project information and the project leader's phone number to: rochsing@yahoo.com. Project information to include (in this order):
    • Day and date of project
    • Time(s)
    • Organization name
    • Project name
    • Project address
    • Number of volunteers needed
    • Description of volunteer responsibilities
    • List of supplies needed and/or special instructions (if any)
    • Organization and/or project description
    • Volunteer parking and sign up location information
    • Leader's e-mail address (or "not available for sign-up yet"... or "leader needed")

Project Team Leaders

LEADERS have a VERY IMPORTANT ROLE.

Your most important job is to host the project and make sure everything runs smoothly. The SUCCESS of SVR depends on you. Please make a GREAT FIRST IMPRESSION by FOLLOWING ALL GUIDELINES!

Duties of Project Team Leaders before the project:

  1. Your e-mail address will be posted along with the project information on the SVR web site events page.
  2. When people sign up, confirm each registration by e-mail or phone.
  3. Keep us(rochsing@yahoo.com) informed if there is a difficulty staffing a project. We can send out an e-mail newsletter requesting additional volunteers.
  4. When the project is full, contact every volunteer to once again confirm attendance and provide the details about the project.
  5. 72 hours before project, send an e-mail to all volunteers indicating:
    • The LOCATION for volunteers to meet at project site
    • Volunteer DUTIES
    • PHONE NUMBER volunteers can call on the day of the project, if they are lost or have questions

Duties of Project Team Leaders on the day of the project:

  • Show up early and be the last to leave a project.
  • Bring extra supplies in case someone forgets.
  • Welcome and introduce the volunteers. Record the names of volunteers who are present.
  • Work with the charity representative to get the project started.
  • Have people start working ASAP. Keep people busy. Make sure everyone has something to do.
  • Mingle with volunteers. Make sure everyone is having fun! Solicit feedback about the project.
  • Talk to charity rep to confirm that we are doing what they expect.
  • Thank everyone for participating! Thank the charity rep!
  • If you want, suggest meeting after the volunteer project. (You might go for pizza, coffee, etc. It is up to you.)

Duties of Project Team Leaders after the project:

  • After the project, send an e-mail to us at: rochsing@yahoo.com
    Include:
    Name of charity
    Date and description of project
    Names of volunteers present
Names of volunteers who canceled or were no-shows
