(AP - Ottawa) Cox started the game pitching and went 3 innings before pulling himself. He gave up three runs, all in a three run bomb from Brian from the Big Red Machine. Glazer pitched the remaining innings, and after pitching a scoreless first, got roughed up for a few more runs. But it's pointless to even mention these points, because we gave up after being down 3-1.
It seemed as though after the third inning, Rogues just gave up hope. It was sad to watch because the pitcher wasn't strong, and we were very capable of doing better. The defense was lack lustre, despite some strong plays at third from Rick Hrycak, an impressive blocked ball by Amos in left field, and an outstanding diving catch from Sim Calvé at second base.
Ah well, we lost, regular season is over.
As far as I see, these last 20 games have been the preseason to two VERY important games, arguably the 2 biggest games in this ball team's history.
On Monday it's Valley. A team who's REWARD for finishing in first place is the privilege of getting to play The Rogues. If this doesn't annoy anyone on the team, I'd be surprised. We're a team full of surprises, and I have NO doubt that we'll scare the living shit out of this team one way or another. We've beaten Valley twice before, once in a tournament.
Will we beat them? I'm not a fortune teller, nor a betting man (often...) so I'm making on predictions. Stats and history indicate that we should lose the game. And you KNOW Valley is expecting a walk in the park.
All's I have to say is that underdogs can be a pain in the ass, and I have100% confidence in all 12 guys in our duggout. The Rogues are a good, smart fastball team, when we want to be. If the desire isn't there to not just play well, but to BEAT Valley, then don't show up. We can beat any team, any time, and on Monday, I'm confident we'll show why we're better than a 4-16 record would show.
PS. Practice on Sunday, 12PM, Diamond #4.
PSS. Seb Soucy is gone for the rest of the year. (He might be back for the RA Tournament near the end of August). Plans for game #1 will remain the same as originally planned, but game #2 will have some obvious - yet undecided - changes. Stay tuned, and I'll see you at the practice. (See above PS for practice details!)
