Changeling
When the Sidhe returned in 1969, they came bearing the banners of several noble Houses that had been vanished from the Earth for six hundred years. These are brief descriptions of each of the primary Houses of the sidhe. Each sidhe is a member of one House, and commoners who is a servant or vassal to a sidhe also holds fealty to that House. Understanding one's House can go a long way towards understanding one's place and intentions.
House Dougal
Members of this House are known for their strength, wisdom, and invention. The House's founder, Lord Dougal, pioneered the process by which fae smiths created steel, making baneful iron safer for use. Members of this house tend to be gruff, practical, and good with their hands. Order and precision are their allies, although they battle the Banality of mindless organization with all their souls. Dougal fae love artistic architecture and engineering of all kinds, and are often found as stewards, clerks, and barristers in freeholds; those lands run by a Dougal tend to be orderly, practical, and safe domains.
House Eiluned
House Eiluned is known for its potent sorcery and mysterious ways, and supposedly at its highest levels it has many contacts among the prodigals. They consider themselves to be in direct confliect with House Gwydion over the right to rule Concordia, and are constantly if subtly working to advance their House's power as well as their own individual holdings. Although such ambitions can lead to infighting and backstabbing, Eiluned quickly band together when the time comes to defend against a common foe or to advance the greater cause of their House.
Many sidhe with a comparatively high rememberance of those memories stolen by the Mists seem to recall a great scandal in Arcadia that was the basis of this House's exile, a charge Eiluned fae vehemently deny. Many lords employ this House as councilors or advisors, as they have as much a knack for unraveling problems as they do creating them. Lands ruled by this House tend to be as dark and mysterious as the House itself, and are often centers of great natural magical power. This House more than any of the other Great Five returned Houses stands with the Unseelie Court, and this often creates a bias against even those few Seelie Eiluned.
House Fiona
This House embraces herioc passion and the spirit of adventure. Fiona fae are known for their love of drink and song as well as battle, and romance is their favourite pastime. Members of this House often hold radical views (compared to other nobles, at least) and see their House as a catalyst for necessary change. Although members of House Fiona can sometimes be called from duty by appeals to base appetites, they are fierce soldiers when the trumpet calls, full of spit and vinegar and absolutely fearless. Despite their recent return (in 1969 with the other sidhe) and their role as one of the main military forces of the returned Arcadians, many Fiona are beloved by the common folk for their laissez-faire attitude toward rank and title, and they have quickly adopted the cause of commoners in fae politics. Lands ruled by members of this House are typically happy and free-spirited, albeit a bit wild and disrespectful in the eyes of more formal Houses and freeholds.
House Gwydion
This House is perhaps the most "noble" of all the Houses returned to Earth, and is generally held to have the best and strongest rulers amongst the fae. Indeed, this House spearheaded the Accordance War effort for the nobles, and still holds most of the power in Concordia. High King David and several of the other Kings are of Gwydion. Some say that arrogance runs in the blood as well, and all Gwydion seem to display unusually hot tempers when roused to anger. Pain or humuliation in particular seem to drive such sidhe wild with rage; however, it generally takes quite a lot to set them off in the first place. Lands ruled by this House tend to be fair and just, with a strong sense of protocol and tradition, but the local ambiance can also be described as cold and aloof.
House Liam
The quietest, and some say the wisest, of the returned Houses, House Liam is known for its dedication to the mortal world and the protection of humans, a cause pursued with a passion that even the Fiona notice. These fae do not see humans as perfect - far from it - but they do feel that humanity, and the dreamers within it, has a right to exist undisturbed by the fae and by the Prodigals. Members of House Liam are often easily angered by Ravaging and hate Banality, and their normally peaceful demeanors are quick to change when presented with such.
The House is looked down upon among the fae for a long ago curse. At some point lost in the Mists of Memory, House Liam became oathbroken. Now, although law forbids Liam fae from being openly mistreated, they are virtually pariahs among the sidhe; most Liam are widely traveled and dispersed. Liam are often among the few nobles who truly understand humans, and often are master-sorcerers, record-keepers and archivists. A wise king keeps a member of House Liam on staff as such. House Liam owns few freeholds, and the ones they do rule are often broken-down urban wastelands that no other nobles would touch.

The Other Houses

Rumours persist that the Great Five Houses are not the only Houses trapped on Earth. Some say that other Houses returned with the sidhe, but have yet to be discovered, or to make themselves known. Still others - commoners who can remember the dim times before the Resurgence - claim that there were still some sidhe on earth during the Interregnum. These ancient fae claim that a very small number of sidhe remained, sidhe of a House whose colour was Grey, and whose blazon was a silver Unicorn. Rumours of the existence of this House - called Scathach by those few nobles who remember that heraldry - continue even today. If they are still upon the Earth, and not crushed by Banality, they are exceedingly rare.
