Piranacon -The Transformers, Hasbro Meat and Potatoes; 5.0 Perks; 5.0 Homer Factor; 5.0 |
||||||||||
Description; 9" gestalt composed of six nasty looking sea-creatures. Piranacon is a combiner of smaller robots Overbite (shark), Nautilator (crab), Seawing (sting-ray), Skaylor (angler-fish), Tentakil (squid), who all attached to Snap-Trap (turtle). any of the four smaller robots can form the arms and legs of Piranacon, they simply transform into the appropriate limb and attach to Snap-Traps shoulder or leg. The fifth robot is then transformed into a large cannon that can be used by Piranacon. All the robots are turquoise and mauve(No, I'm not kidding. Believe it or not, it works rather well.). Each robot comes with the standard energy rifile. Snap-Trap comes with a large rifle and a large sword. |

Gestalts rule. 'Nuff said. Robot collectors have a thing for any piece that takes a bunch of smaller robots that mash together into something much bigger. I imagine the Defense Department has a number of fannish types who look at this stuff and good 'Ya know, we can build that.' .... ok, maybe not. Anyway, call them gestalts, call them combiners, whatever, they are awesome. The Transformers went through a bunch, such as Superion and Devastator. However, my favorite is Piranacon, a combiner composed of the Autobot-trashing sea-demons called the Seacons. The meat and potatoes of the Seacons are excellent. Each robot is sculpted into a water monster, such as a shark or snapping turtle. The colors also work surprisingly well, the turquoise and mauve give the pieces the look of tropical sea-creaturs, like parrot-fish or sea anemones. If these colors were used for anything else, forget it. The sculpt is also solid, capturing the combination of high-tech with organic details very well. Unfortunately, the articulation is very 'eh' in all forms, whether it's the individual robots, their monster form, or as Piranacon. The only articulation is in the shoulders. The perks make up for this lack short-coming. Each piece transforms into a robot, it's trade-mark Seacon form, merges into Piranacon, and can form a weapon which Piranacon can use. Granted, the weapons each smaller Seacon transforms into isn't stunning, but it was a very cool idea. The Homer factor is high for me. I love combiners. They offer many possiblities for display... ok, and PLAY as well. Nyah. You have the many smaller robots, or you can start demolishing everything with the super-sized robot. What did it for me, however, is the unique sculpt created for the Seacons. Not just another shark, but a cyborg shark with large teeth, a snapping turtle with demonic eyes and blades on it's shell. In the end, Hasbro has another winner with the Seacons. Superion, watch your back... |
