Toy Hype - Megatron! One of the great villains in cartoons is back! I remember that gravely voice and the amazing fusion cannon from the original 'toon and comic. Sure Shockwave looked cooler as a toy, but Megatron carried an aura about him. A combination of ruthlessness, cunning, and all-around bad-ass that makes villains memorable. 'Transformers - Energon' was brought many of the old characters back, such as Prime and Starscream. But what about the Fearless leader of the 'Cons? Ah, he's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack, and from the prototypes he's bad to the bone! There are countless prototypes out there, and even a boxed version on E-bay of this guy, and he looks gorgeous! The one thing that kinda bugged me about the G-1 Megatron is this alternate form; 'bot to gun. A GUN?!??!!!! Not a cannon, howitzer, B-2 bomber, or even a biiiiiiiiig dog, but a regular sized gun. Sure, he fires a nasty energy blast, but he's still this tiny gun that NEEDS someone to PULL THE TRIGGER. Yes, very lame. Well, 'Tron's new form is a sight to behold. He's now a futuristic fighter-bomber. The new piece has the fuselage serving as Megatron's torso, his legs appear to be the engines of the fighter and the wings become 'Tron's arms. Megatron is covered in weapons, most notably a pair of cannons that are on his shoulders in 'bot mode and adjacent to his noes in bomber/fighter mode. Oh, and on top of that Megatron comes with a Mini-con tank that also holds an energy sword. Woohoo! From a shot I saw on E-bay of the figure in the box, it looks like this piece is also about the size of Energon Prime in super mode. It seems like a hit or miss proposition when it comes to get Prime and Megatron to match in size. When 'Beast Wars' was big, Prime and Megatron were of rather disparate sizes. Personally, I can't abide the biiiiiiiig good guy beating the snot outta the puny bad guy. All in all, the latest addition to 'Energon' sounds promising, and it looks like Hasbro has taken to heart the problems fans has with 'Armada' and creating one hell of a new line. And now, we get to see one of the great grudge matches in 'toons come to life; Prime Vs. Megatron! Grab a seat and let's get ready to ruuuuuuuuuuummmmbbbbbbbbbbbble! |
