Ramblin' Man
Movie Ramblin'; 'Unleashed' - Luc Besson, Louis Leterrier
Back to p. 1

But what really sells this movie is the acting.  Bob Hoskins is wonderfully over-the-top as Uncle Bart, but that's just the start.  He plays Bart with bravado and serious attitude, but the scary part is the way he can suddenly become an 'understanding', 'loving' parent to Danny.  Sweet, psycho Uncle Bart turns moments of anger and violence are turned into doing things for 'your own good'.  These moments make Bart not just a villain, but someone who is truly despicable.  Morgan Freeman plays Danny's mentor perfectly.  A beautiful combination of love, humor, and juuuuuust enough guts.  No, this isn't a totally original role, playing the 'father figure', but ya know what?  He does it VERY well.

The star is Jet Li.  Seeing Jet Li's change over the course of the film from a 'dog' to a man is a sight to behold.  No he's not rattling off lines like Al Pacino pontificating.  However the slumped shoulders and sad eyes show more despair then any lines could give.  Then to see those shoulders straighten and those eyes harden under Freeman's tutelage is a joy to see.

Please, please if you get a chance to see this GO AND WATCH.  This is what an action movie can be at it's best.  It's not just about kicking butt and explosions.  It's about seeing our hero become everything he wishes to be.
