Description; The Alien is back and baaaaaaaaaaaaaad. The piece is approximately 7" tall and captures all of the sinuous details of the Alien. The figure has a decent amount of articulation, although no knees and so ball-and-socket joints in the shoulders. The Alien is packed with a reproduction of the sacrificial table from the movie. |

One of my favorite movie memories is watching 'Aliens' in a huge theater on a 70 mm MASSIVE screen in a theater in Waikiki. Movie was amazing... and that scene where they're all huddled in Operations, the motion trackers are saying they're SURROUNDED by Aliens... and then Hicks sticks his head up through the panel in the ceiling and sees DOZENS OF THEM CRAWLING THROUGH THE CEILING! Lordy, EVERYONE in the theater screamed! Sure, Jason Vorhees is indestructible, Freddy is nasty looking, blah, blah, blah. The Alien, though, plays on all of your primal fears; crawling through every dark corner, those dripping jaws, a face with no eyes, and an over-all form that is from the worst pits of Hell... wow! Alien figures have come and gone over the decades, and McFarlane toys throws in another piece to coincide with the release of the 'Alien Vs. Predator' movie. So what has McFarlane created? Ok, bad news it's not the perfect Alien figure, but it's pretty dang fine just the same. Meat and potatoes are great, but should have been better. The sculpting of the figure, no surprise, is gorgeous. It captures the look of the creature with all of it's grotesque joints, the muscles that seem to be melted to the skeleton, and a host of other amazing details. The paint is simple charcoal gray, but considering that's what the thing looks like, hey, it works. Articulation... well, that could have been better. The figure does have ball-joints in it's hips, moving shoulders, ankles, wrists, biceps, and even a very flexible tail. All of this gives the figure a solid platform for posing. Just the same, I wish more ball-joints were used so you could duplicate the sinuous, fluid motion of the nightmare creature. Perks are very simple. There's only a sacrificial table, just like the one from the movie. However, like the figure, it's very well made and goes perfectly with the figure. However, I do wish the figure itself had the legendary retractable jaw. Considering this little trick was used in the 'Alien Vs. Predator' boxed set, I'm surprised it wasn't done here. Homer Factor? Need you ask? Hey, this is THE nastiest space alien ever done. Even new stuff like the creatures from 'Independence Day' owes a HUGE homage to this extra-terrestrial demon. Over all, this is a great figure to have on your shelf. Bad news is it could have been soooooo much better. Just the same, it's still a beautiful piece of work that'll keep your other figures looking over their shoulders. Bwahahahahahahahahahahhaaha! |
