Ah, nothing like being cannon fodder in action-adventure movies. You can have the best hardware, outnumber your opposition 20 to one, but since you're the bad guy, you get PASTED CONSTANTLY THOUGH-OUT THE MOVIE! Well, until 'Lord of the Rings', that is. Think about it, though. 'Star Wars', Jackie Chan movies, everywhere you look the bad guys outnumber the good guys, and the bad guys are toast. What's up here, the evildoers union can't get good help these days? Then you get "Lord of the Rings'. Ok, fine, so Orcs and Uruk-Hai still get pasted pretty badly. Just the same, this isn't an easy battle by any means... and honestly, the humans are losing, by a LOT. By the end of 'Return of the King' the forces of the west are reduced to about 500... and facing about 20, 000 of the enemy. Oh boy. For once, the good guys have a worthy adversary not just in numbers, but in skill as well. Behold the Uruk-Hai. Take Stormtrooper numbers, but give them a Wookie's attitude and ability to sustain damage. Gulp. So how did Toybiz handle the enemies of humanity? Well, in this case, pretty dang well. Oh, you know the drill for meat and potatoes; either good, or reaaaaaaaaaaaaal good. In this case, reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaal good. The figure is about a head taller then the other figures from the line, giving this Uruk that nice, 'I'm better then you are' gaze over all of the other 'LOTR' pieces. The sculpting is also outstanding, reproducing the wrinkly skin and harsh, ferocious face of these demons. And the articulation isn't too shabby, either. Ball joints in hips and shoulders, knees, ankles, elbows, are very, very good all in all. Perks? Not bad, but should have been a weeeeee bit better. The figure is armed with a massive shield and the sword with that wicked spike at the end. Both look like they were just taken out of the smithy. There is one problem with the sword, though... sword envy. Remember in the film how MASSIVE it is? Well now the 'massive' weapon looks like a steak knife. Come on, this is an Uruk-Kai here! He cans use a sledgehammer one-handed if he had to! Sigh. Oh, the figure also comes with this weird arm-swinging, sword-slashing action that moves BOTH arms. It's ok, fortunately it doesn't hamper the figures articulation and posability. Homer factor? Well, I've been searching like crazy for bad guys for my shelf, and FINALLY found one worthy to stand with Legolas, Gimli, and Aragorn! What's the final word? How about 'Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!' Any good guy is only as good as the bad guy he gets to pummel. All in all, this is a pretty dang good figure to have on your shelf. |
