Description; The newest incarnation of Megatron is unleashed!

'Energon's version of Megatron is a massive 'bot that transforms into an equally massive fighter-bomer.  The piece is a large flying-wing with giant cannons flanking the nose in vehicle mode, along with a plethora of other weapon's ports scattered all over the vehicle.  In bot' mode Megatron is about 10" tall.  The engines become 'Tron's legs, arms pop out of his torso, the massive cannons set on the piece's shoulders, and the giant wing sits on Megatron's back.

The piece comes with a tank drone that can can sit on the fighter-bomber's 'back', or it can sit on Megatron's arm as a cannon/sword.

Remember the Toy Hype article? It's not hype any more, it's here.  Hasbro has been working at getting the taste of 'Armada' out of everyone's mouth with the new 'Energon' line.  Ok, so it still sounds kinda gimmicky; weapons made of 'Energon' that can be used by the bigger pieces and the 'Spark of Combination'.  Well, the offerings so far have been very solid, such as Prime and Starscrearm.  Ah, but what about the Biiiiig Bad I rambled about?  Does Hasbro live up to expectations?  Oh yeah!

Meat and potatoes are awesome on this piece.  The sculpt captures the high-tech feel of 'Energon' very well, although it could be a bit more detailed.  There are panel lines galore on this piece, and a few spots show the obligatory pipes and tubes you need on something this 'high tech'.  Considering how large this piece is, it could have used more details, though.  Speaking of large, this thing is a hefty piece of work.  Standing beside Optimus Prime this piece is about the same size and actually bulkier.  Frankly, if you've been looking for a true nemesis to go against the hulking
Optimal Optimus, this guy is THE one.

The paint/coloring on this figure is simple but appropriate.  The figure is mostly gray with navy-blue highlights.  Not fancy, but appropriate for the leader of the Decepticons!  Articulation is very good; shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees, just about the whole works.  Megatron is also armed with a drone tank (more on it later) which is a bit bulky but is well sculpted and is all black.

The perks, though, wow.  First, the drone tank.  I have no idea why they didn't just add a Mini-Con to 'Tron.  Go figure.  Fortunately, it is a pretty well made tank, which can be attached to Megatron's vehicle form AND is also a sword, but I'm getting ahead of myself.  Hehehehehehehehe.  Megatron's vehicle form is a massive fighter-bomber covered in weapons; gun ports, missile doors, cannons are all over the place on this piece.  The bomber also has a 'hyper-mode': the wings can be opened like an X-Wing fighter, revealing more weapons!  Woohoo!  The transformation to 'bot form is simple, but is an amazing contrast from the vehicle mode.  The hulking wings on Megatron's back and the massive cannons over his shoulders give the figure an intimidating 'Do you REALLY want a piece of me?' look.  The tank drone can also be attached to 'Tron's arm like a cannon, or a detachable blade can be stuck on to it so it's a huge sword.  Ok, so it's rather cumbersome and obnoxious looking, still... wow.

Homer factor is over the top on this one.  When 'Energon' images for the line first appeared, all I could thing of was 'where's Megatron?'  I waited... waited... finally images of the prototype appeared... and the possibilities for an incredible figure popped into my head.

I'm not disappointed.  As is often said, great heroes are judged by the villains they face, and Energon Megatron is a perfect foil for Energon Prime!  Just think Shockwave, er, I mean ShockBLAST is on the way.  Bwahahahahahahahaha.
