Description; one of the mightest Transformers is back. Omega Supreme is approixmately 16" tall and well articualted. The massive 'bot is mostly yellow right side and mostly blue on the left. The two sides split down the middle, with the right being a giant claw/excavator attacked to a 'battle train' and the left being a massive space battlescuiser. When the sides are merged, the claw becomes OS's right arm while the rest of the vehicles becomes Omega's torso and legs. Meanwhile the bow of the battlecruiser becomes it's left arm while the rest of the hull becomes Omega's torso and legs. |

Sure, Megatron and Prime are big and bad, and combiners are biiiiiiig and baaaad mo'fo's, but then you have Omega Supreme! The G-1 version had the massive claw arm, a giant cannon for a left arm, and it was motorized! Godzilla, eat your heart out! Oh, and don't forget he transformed into a tank with tracks it could roll on, and a rocket with a launching pad! Hasbro revitalized the Transformers line with 'Energon', and fans were pumped to hear a number of the older characters, like Prowl and Ironhide, were coming back. Ah, but people cheered when Omega Supreme was announced! Considering the work Hasbro and Takara put into the new line we all waited eagerly for the new look for OS to be revealed! So how does this one measure up? Well, it SEEMED so cool... but then... well... First, the good news is the meat and potatoes are awesome. The problem with giant robot pieces is often the huge size sacrifices detail in the sculpting on the figure. That isn't the case here. A plethora o' panel lines, vents, pipes, et al are on the piece so this doesn't look like the umpteenth Power Rangers Megazord. The articulation on the 'bot is also incredible; knees, elbows, along with hips and shoulders all move very smoothly. Perfect for those fistfights with Unicron! The perks... well, this is the problem. The fun thing with something that's 16" tall is you can do a lot of stuff with it! Maybe you can separate the figure into about 7 robots, like a Megazord. Perhaps the piece turns into a COOOL thing, like a planet, ala Unicron. Well, this splits into only two pieces. Yes, the figure separates into a giant 'battle train' and a gorgeous battleship that is a homage to the Yamato from 'Star Blazers'. The individual vehicles are very well done and have a ton of little features. For instance there is a small moving crane on the battle train while the turrets on the battleship rotate. Unfortunately, to get to these forms, it's a very simple procedure of pulling OS apart down the middle. Really, that's it. A gestalt one forth the size can split into five different robots, which each transform into individual vehicles. This massive piece just splits into two vehicles. Sure, COOL vehicles... but that's it, and the vehicles don't turn into anything else. Ok, ok, technically the halves can go into an 'artillery' mode... yeah, that's as lame as it sounds. Oh, there is one more mode; Optimus Prime and it's 4 vehicles can merge with OS. The transformation isn't bad, but it gets easily over-shadowed by the bulk of Omega Supreme. Homer factor? It WAS very high for me. One of THE big 'bots in the Transformers comes back and gets a promising 'Energon' make-over leads to a LOT of expectations. Unfortunately the expectations weren't met. Is this a bad piece? Most certainly not. It is well sculpted and the transformations aren't horrible. BUT, considering this thing is about $50.00 retail, I expected a HUGE amount of bang for my buck. Unfortunately, this fizzled. |
