Batman figures. The problem with them is you get slammed with a ton of... oh let's just say it, you get BURIED by a ton o' lame figures that have no reason to exist. Missile-launching this, net-capture that. Even James Bond wonders what the heck Batman needs with all of this stuff. Even Mattel's line is getting rather twitchy. Zip Line Batman was a solid, basic figure, but I haven't touched most of the others yet because, well, I need to pay rent, and the figures haven't really caught my eye. BUT, every once in a while, a specialized figure comes out that makes sense, and is gorgeous. Case in point is this new piece. Meat and potatoes are very solid on this piece. The piece is sculpted by the Four Horsemen and is a blend of old school and Jim Lee's interpretation of Batman. A nice plus on this is the details. Since this is for diving purpose, the hands are sculpted with webbing between the fingers, and the feet have nice flippers sculpted to them too. Personally, I think the ears should be longer, but beyond that this is a nice figure. The perks are the best part. The figure comes with a removable air-tank/propulsion unit that fits on the back. The facemask is also removable so Batman isn't stuck wandering around with the mask on his face. In addition there are two tiny tanks on Batman's utility belt that are removable. No, not a big deal but details like that make good figures reeeeeeeeeal good. Homer factor? Hey, its Batman, gotta get it. This one helps me keep the faith that Mattel will do right to the Dark Knight. How does this figure measure up in the end? It's a great addition to your collection. It's not perfect by any means, but the sculpt and over-all craftsmanship are good, and for once the gimmick on the figure makes sense. Now if Mattel can keep this up for a few hundred more pieces... |
