Jabba's Palace Luke Skywalker - Star Wars, Hasbro Meat and Potatoes; 5.0 Perks; 5.0 Homer Facor; 5.0 |
||||||||||
Description; FINALLY a back-to-basics Jedi Luke. This 3" figure is based on Luke's appearance at Jabba's palace. He's wearing the classic Jedi tunic in all black. The figure comes with a ton o' articulation; shoulders, knees, elbows, the works. Woohoo! Luke comes with a lightsaber, stand, and cloth cape. |

Yes, it's ANOTHER Luke figure, but hear me out. I've got two reasons for beating this review to death. The second I'll explain much later. The first, though, is going over the figures over time like this is a great way to see how the line has evolved over the years. Kinda like collecting EVERY Batman figure over the last 20 years. No, you don't need to get ALL of them, but it's fun to get a sample here and there to see how things have changed. Are we talking about new repaints with a few added extras, a'la the Hasbro Batman figures? Nope, thank god. Instead, Hasbro smartened-up and realized collectors want to see better, and better, and BETTER figures. For some it's the articulation and sculpt like Marvel Legends. For other fans it's the tons and tons of accessories you can get like a Gundam figure. Either way, Hasbro got the hint toy fans want a LOT more for the buck, even if the figure is about 3" tall. Hasbro has responded. Oh yeah... The meat and potatoes on Luke show how far the 'Star Wars' line has come. The first Jedi Luke figure was a decent piece. The sculpt wasn't bad, the lightsaber was even sculpted to look like Luke's weapon in 'ROTJ', blah, blah, blah. However, there were a few problems, namely this Luke wasn't just on the Force, he was on steroids, and he was the same height as Vader. Remember, Luke is SHORTER then Vader in the movies, and his chest shouldn't be big enough to bench-press the Death Star. So what did Hasbro do this time around? First, Luke is the right size or close enough so the figure doesn't look like a pro-wrestler. The amazing thing is the head-sculpt; this LOOKS like Mark Hamil in 'ROTJ'. Wow. Another plus... KNEE AND ELBOW JOINTS!!!! Oh, a caveat here; the elbows are cut at a bias, like Kaiyodo figures. However, this does allow better posing options, such as Luke holding his lightsaber with both hands! Hey, it's little things that make a toy fan happy. Hehehehehehehehe. Perks? There could always be more, but for a figure that retails for less then $10, you can't complain. Luke comes with his green light saber, a CLOTH Jedi cloak, the blaster pistol he snagged in the Throne Room, and last but not least a STAND. One gripe... the blade of the lightsaber isn't removable. It's not a huge deal by any means. But considering most of the other 'sabers (like the one on Throne Room Duel Luke) have removable blades, it's a bit odd this one doesn't come off as well. Oh well, no biggie. Homer factor is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay high for me. Ok, time to explain the OTHER reason why I have all of these Luke figures around... I was one of the few people who LIKED Luke. ... still reading? Whew! Hey, he did manage to keep the whining to a minimum in 'ROTJ'! All in all, this is a wonderful figure if you're a 'Star Wars' fan. It showcases the amazing sculpting and solid articulation of the line, AND it comes with a lot of cool extras. And just think... in a few months... it'll be on DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!! |
