Silver Surfer - Marvel Legends Series... , ToyBiz
Meat and Potatoes; 5.0
Perks; 5.0
Homer Facor; 4.5
Description; the Surfer of the Space-Ways in 3-d!

Silver Surfer is approximately 7" tall and painted all silver.  The figure is a perfect sculpt of the Surfer, and has a ton o' articulation.

The figure comes with a surf board mounted on an 'asteroid'.  The entire display can even be hung on a wall.  In addition... the Surfer comes with Howard the Duck.  Go figure.
Whatever happened to the Silver Surfer cartoon?  No, I'm not kidding.  There was one for about, oh, about a season.  The bad news it is came out after 'The Fantastic Four' and 'Iron Man' 'toons were released.  I know, not pleasant.  However, the Silver Surfer cartoon had more in common with the X-men and Spidey 'toons from Fox; solid animation and story-lines that catered to a young-adult audience.  Even the toys for the Surfer looked great; lots of articulation, a TON of characters, a great time to be a collector!  And naturally, the plug was pulled on the whole thing.  Doh!!!!!!!!!!  This is a sad state of affairs since the Surfer is a wonderful source for a 'toon and toys; set in outer space, great villains like Galactus and Thanos to kick around, it goes on and one.

For years, the Surfer disappeared, which is rather ironic since he's one of the most powerful characters in comics. (Think about it.)  Ouch.  Fortunately, Marvel Legends DIDN'T forget this guy, and came out with this new figure based on the Surfer of the Starts.  What's the result?  Need you ask?

Meat and potatoes are... actually, it's an odd mix.  The sculpting and articulation is amazing.  I know, I know, they're ALWAYS amazing.  The thing is the articulation is pointed to this particular character.  Not only do you have umpteenth number of joints, but also all of them help this dude ride his surfboard.  Ah, but more on the accessory later.  The point is the designers set things up so this guy could use his accessory well.  Nice move.  It should be common sense, but in the world of punching out toys like donuts, doing this is a big deal.  The paint... well, that's the problem.  It's all silver, naturally, but it can chip on certain points very easily, such as around the shoulders.  Just a little warning to look out for 'bald spots.'

Perks are... well, bizarre.  First, there's the surfboard that was done very well.  It's mounted on an articulated arm that is stuck into an 'asteroid' so you can move the board around for all sorts of neat poses and even mount it on a wall.  The board has a magnetic strip down the middle that clamps on to steel pieces in the Surfer's feet, so you can have the Surfer ride in a number of cool poses.  Woohoo!  The other perk... is a PVC of Howard the Duck.  I don't recall Howard appearing with the Surfer or any other connections.  I have no clue what the heck they were thinking when they came up with this pairing.  Ok, even if they ARE connected... why the HECK do you pick Howard the Duck?  Ok, ok, so I do know of ONE Howard the Duck fan who works at my local shop... but this is a bit odd.

Homer factor?  Not too shabby on this one.  The character is fun and you cannot go wrong with Legends figures.  Ok... there is one TINY problem... see below.

In the end, this is another butt-kicking piece of PVC for Marvel Legends and more on the way after seeing the shots from the International Toy Fair.  Ok, here's the small problem... now that you've got the Surfer... where is Thanos and Galactus?  Oh... never mind... Galactus is on the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Bwahahahahahahahahhaa!
