Cthulu!!!!!!!!!!
No, I didn't sneeze.  Before anything Steven King, Dean Koontz, and a cast of thousands created, there was H.P. Lovecraft.  He specialized in gothic-horror in the 30's.  Granted, not the machine-gun quick dialog and pace we're accustomed to in our stories, but the worlds and creatures he created felt disturbingly real... and plausible.  His claim to fame was the Cthulu mythos; a group of alien beings with the power of gods that have existed for billions of years.  They would make the likes of Neil Gaiman's 'Sandman' cringe.  These creatures were ghastly horrors of slime, tentacles, teeth, and HUGE.  Godzilla, eat your heart out.  The most well-known creature of Lovecraft's menagerie is Cthulu; 300 ft tall, giant bat wings, talons, and huge tentacles dangling from it's face and writhing every where.  Yes, gross, but so cool... in a twisted sort of way.

Over the years, assorted companies have cashed-in on the Cthulu legend with statues, a gaming system, and even plush toys.  Yes, I said PLUSH; it's actually rather adorable, in a 'Awwwwwwwe, isn't that baby crocodile cute' sort of way.  I have one on my desk, and he's named 'Fred.'   But how about something to terrify the other denizens of you toy shelf?  Ahhhhhhh...

First, is how big do we want this thing.  No, 12" is out.  Y'all know I can't abide by the 'Barbie' sized pieces, so we'll compromise and go 7".  It'll be certainly larger then most pieces on your shelf but not so large it overwhelms the other figures.

Naturally, the sculpt has to be over-the-top to capture the prehistoric, alien look something this ghastly will have.  Articulation doesn't have to be over-board, with toes, ankles, et al.  Just the basic shoulders, knees, elbows, hips, neck, and waist should suffice.  Oh, it would be a nice touch to have the fingers articulated so that the giant talons could grasp things.   In addition, the tentacles on the figure's face should be made of soft-plastic with wire imbedded inside so the tentacles can be posed as well.

Next, the figure must duplicate the Rodan-like wings, perhaps adding wire-supports like the tentacles so the wings can be posed as well.

Accessories?  Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... how about a stand that looks like ancient, slime-covered limestone?   In Lovecraft's 'The Call of Cthulu', this leviathan hibernates in a city beneath the sea, so maybe having an alien sky-line as a backing for the limestone base would add a nice oomph and 'Holy cow' to the figure.

There you go, a giant monster that Stan Winston could be proud of... or have nightmares over.
