Rogue Spear Revolution
|
Features
Rainbow Six was filled with lots of great features never before seen in a
first-person shooter. Rainbow Six's features were also very realistic, but
there's always things people don't like. The development team at Red Storm
Entertainment went through hundreds, probably even thousands of E-Mails,
newsgroup messages and more to see what the people liked and disliked about
Rainbow Six. They got E-Mails on suggestions of better game play, maps,
weapons and a lot more. Red Storm listened, and most of the new features
in Rogue Spear are from feedback suggestions.
-
New Artificial Intelligence - There were so many changes to the Rainbow Six
AI that the development team started the new AI from scratch. Expect smarter and more varied
enemies, just like they would be in real life. If an enemies hears gunshots,
footsteps or any other disturbance, he might simply walk around and suspiciously
look around and go back about his business, or he might panic and come firing at
you, or he may shoot a hostage if one is near. With the new AI, the enemies are
a lot less predictable and you'll have to take more caution and eliminate him as
soon as possible. AI has also been improved with you teammates. You will no
longer get stuck on the stairs or in a narrow hallway because of a teammate
being in the way.
-
New Rendering Engine - Rogue Spear's new rendering engine allows for more
realistic characters, weapons and scenery. The new rendering also allows for
more detail in the environment. There are multiple graphics tweaking options - level
of detail, resolution, fog, and even the number of bullet holes. People with high end
systems and GeForce2's will be able to make the graphics great, but the options allow
for even Pentium 233's to run at an acceptable frame rate. Grenades leave
marks on the ground and door breaches stay in place. The wounded also show more
realistic effects than in Rainbow Six, such as limping when shot in the leg.
-
Interactive Environments - The environment in the game will be a lot
more interactive than it was in Rainbow Six. Frag Grenades wont only blow up doors and
windows, they also be able to blow up furniture, vehicles, and other objects.
Grenades leave burn mark on walls and floors. You can also shoot out tires, computers, and
even explosive barrels.
-
More Realistic Wound Effects - In Rainbow Six, your screen would flash a quick red
and you'd get out of the way and your safe again. But in Rogue Spear, when this happens you
might be limping from then on, or have a wounded arm and aiming would be off, or you may
reload slower.
-
More realistic weapon physics - Bullets will now lose energy as they travel. When
you fire from long distances, you now have to account for bullet drop. You also lose accuracy
as you run. The slower you move, the better your chances of an accurate shot are. Different
ammo types have different effects - stronger ammo can penetrate doors and some walls, and also has varying
levels of loudness.
-
More realistic armor effects - Bullets stun your character when you are hit. When the
bullet hits the chest, it may only partially wound him, but it temporarily stops him as
he feels the impact of the shot.
-
Full Sniper Support - You can now assign snipers to your team to give you back up
from above or simply remove any targets they see. Rogue Spear includes sniper
rifles, along with special planning and action action phase controls for snipers.
-
Different ammo types - Rifles have different types of ammo you can choose from. JHP
(Jacketed Hollow Point) and FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) can be chosen for the rifles.
Shotguns can be packed with buckshot, slugs and rubber baton rounds.
-
Weather Effects - On certain maps it may be raining and this will make your mission
harder by reducing visibility. There are uniforms for various weather situations, including
arctic and snow uniforms.
-
Improved Movements - Your character can now peek around corners without
putting his/her whole body into risk. You can shoot or throw a frag in this position as well.
There are also crouching movements - you can now move in a slow duck-walk or in fast, hunched-over
run.
-
Weapon Scopes - Different weapons have different scopes and zoom sizes. No longer will you be
able to snipe in with any weapon. The zoom is now modeled much more realistically. Sniping with an MP5
can be a difficult task, while assaulting with a Walther is also difficult.
-
Mission Replays - When you finish your mission you can run a cinematic replay. This will help you
see what went wrong (or right!) You can watch what everyone did and how they did it at different angles,
and from different points of view. Rogue Spear also allows you to save these replays for you to share with
others
-
More Sounds - The terrorists now panic out loud and speak their native languages - some even
scream taunts and insults at you while you clear them out, while others beg for forgiveness. Sound effects
like rain and water give you a more realistic feel. You can also set sounds to play during multiplayer
games, along with text messages.
-
Alternate Single Player Modes - Once you beat a mission, you can go back to it in two different
modes: Terrorist Hunt and Lone Wolf. In Terrorist Hunt, you and your team will have to kill 30
terrorists on the map. Lone Wolf is basically the same, but your on your own, no help from a team.
-
Easier Kit Selection - You can now assign single weapons or a whole kit to a operative more
easily. You can also save your favorite kits.
-
New Kit Items - Rogue Spear has many new kit items - including binoculars, C4, mounted heartbeat
sensors, heartbeat sensor jammers, mounted HBS jammers, heartbeat pucks, and smoke grenades.
-
More Control Over Teammates - You can now tell all your teams to halt or advance during the
game. There are keyboard commands that enable you to command teammates to throw a frag, breach a door,
flashbang a room, or other actions.
-
Observer Mode - Observer mode is a mode that enables you to watch what your teammates are
doing during the game. You can also watch your team during action mode without actually playing - it
is possible to win the game by your plans alone.
-
Mission Editor - The Rogue Spear Editor is an easy way to make single player missions, add walls
and objects for multiplayer missions, or modify weapons.
-
Improved Planning Screen - New waypoint orders include snipe, cover, and defend. New modes
include assault, infiltrate, recon and escort. The best new feature to the planning screen
is the fully textured 3-D view. This new 3-D view allows you to see the mission as if you were an
eye in the sky.
-
Improved Victory Condition Reporting - You will now be notified in the game if any action are
taking place that might affect the outcome the mission's success. The
end-level screens have also been improved for both multi-player and
single-player. There is also a new statistics-filled waiting screen in
multi-player for players that are entering a game that's in progress.
-
Armpatches - You can design a 32x32 bitmap image for use in the game as an armpatch for
quick and easy multiplayer identification.
-
Multiplayer Hosting Options - The host can lock teams so that people can't change team while play
in adversarial. Host can also force weather effects on all the players so that everyone has the same
effects and the game is played fairly, unlike in Rainbow Six where you can have an advantage by turning off fog effects.
The clients' ping to the server is displayed as well, so the host can find laggers when the game is warping.
-
Upgraded Mini-Map - In the mini-map, the players will have the first letters of their names displayed
on them. You will now be able to see who on your team is coming up to or which teammate you're following
by looking at their ID on the mini-map.<
-
Multiple Insertion Zones - There are now multiple insertion zones for all of the maps. You may choose
to play a random insertion zone or choose a specific one for the map you are playing on.
