Multiplayer

Multiplayer gaming on the Internet can be the most fun part of any game, and this very true in Rogue Spear. On this page you'll find all the information you need (and more) to get started in playing Rogue Spear on the Internet.

Finding a Multiplayer Game

To find a multiplayer game on the internet is pretty easy and doesn't take much time. You can sign on to the net and be playing Rogue Spear in minutes. The three most popular places to find a Rogue Spear game are The Zone, MPlayer and the RSE Forums.

  • Microsoft Gaming Zone (The Zone) - The Zone is one of the fastest and simplest way to get online and play a game of Rogue Spear. The Zone is very convenient because you can easily find or host a game in seconds. When playing on The Zone , though, you will need to install the Zone software and get a "Zone ID" (your Zone identification). This process is quick and automatic, so you should be up and going in no time!

  • Red Storm Entertainment Forums - Using the Red Storm Forums is a more simpler way of finding a game. From the RSE Forums main page, click on Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Line, and then click on the Rogue Spear Server List folder. In this folder, people post their IP address and wait for people to join in. To join a game, simply write down the IP someone posted and connect to it in Rogue Spear (tutorial below). If you wish to host, simply post your IP and launch the game and someone will join in no time.

  • Gamespy - Gamespy is a great way to find a server and join it. Just download the software at the site, install it, and you are ready to go! It's harder to host a Gamespy server, but finding a good low ping server on it is a cinch.

Joining/Hosting using IP

Playing a game via IP is the most straight-forward way to play a game of Rogue Spear, since all you need is Rogue Spear, an internet connection, and another person or more to play. IP games are usually formed between a couple of friends in ICQ or IP games are formed from the Red Storm Forums. In this section, we will go over on how to join or host an IP game.

If you're going to host an IP game, make sure you know your IP address first. To get your IP address, click Start -> Run and type in winipcfg. In this dialog you will find your IP address, which is something like xx.xxx.xxx. Be sure to write this number down and let everyone Rogue Spear Main Menu who will join your game know this number. Another thing you may want to tell them is your Rogue Spear's port number (default is 2346). If you've never changed your port number in Rogue Spear, then it's 2346 by default. To change it, go into the Options Menu in Rogue Spear, click on MP Server and find Port Number and change it if you need to (no need to change this Multiplayer Menu unless something else on your computer is using port 2346). Once everyone knows your IP and Port and everyone's ready, it's now time to launch the game. Launch Rogue Spear and click Multiplayer, and then click Create Game. Your now hosting Rogue Spear, and everyone else that is going to join using your IP will hopefully be in the game with you soon.

Joining an IP game is the exact opposite of hosting one. First, you have to know who the host will be and get his/her IP and port numbers. Write the IP and Port numbers The multiplayer main screen down. Once you know that the host has launched the game, run Rogue Spear and click on Multiplayer. In the Multiplayer screen, click on Manual Join. A dialog will come up with two text fields, an IP, and a port. Enter the host's IP number you wrote down earlier (yup, wrote, can't copy and paste in here) and put in 2346 for the port (if host using another port other than the default, enter that port). Click Join and you'll be in the game in no time.

When your the host, you have lots of power. You can disable certain weapons or items by using Kit Restrictions (it's the second button from the left on the button), choose the map, lock the server (the second button from the right on the bottom), put The Kit Restrictions screen a password on the server (enter the password in the upper-left corner of the screen and activate it using the third button from the right on the bottom), boot players (highlight player and press the third button from the left on the bottom), lock teams (press the first button from the left on the bottom), choose insertion zones for the map, choose the game type and you can activate random map/insertions and have Rogue Spear pick a map/insertion for you. You can also choose to allow auto-targeting and to show enemies on the mini-map.The in-game server menu

When the game starts, you can access the server options by pressing F12. In this menu, you can activate/change the password, lock the server and boot players. If the game is not starting at the beginning of the game, try pressing F12 and look to see if there's player in red text. If a player is in red text, this player has not yet loaded the map. You can either wait, or choose to boot him to attempt to start the game.
