LinksKaren Rohlf: Dressage NaturallyKaren competed in grand prix dressage before she found Parelli Natural Horsemanship. She now is an associate Parelli professonial, and, more importantly, a well spring of knowledge and inspiration. Karen combines the knowledge of timing and biomechanics with horse psycology. What she can achieve on a horse is paralleled only by what she can achieve at liberty. I can't possibly say enough about Karen- I only hope I can spend more time with her! The following video of Karen Rohlf is so inspiring that I've included it here. This also gives an idea of what direction Rudy Horsemanship is headed in. Philippe Karl Philippe Karl is one of the few true living masters of classical dressage. He exclusively teaches his certified trainers and apprentices in France so training with him directly is not an option, but just watching a fifteen second clip of his riding is enough to inspire. He makes great use of long lines and ALWAYS works the horse with a long neck. You will never see his horses behind the verticle. I often imagine I am preparing to ride with him as a way of keeping myself true to the principles I know are right. Walter Zettl Walter A Zettl needs no introduction. He is an amazingly sweet and wonderful man with a reverant attitude towards the horse. Walter has won the hearts of many true horse lovers as he has been waging war against the practices of hyperflexion, punishment, and cruel training methods. If you have a limited learning budget, audit one of his clinics- and sit close to him. He whispers to the students as the student is encouraged to whisper to the horse. The Equus Projects This group of dancers specialize in dancing with horses, and give unique clinics to equestrians. I find their work very intriguing as they get to build rapport with the horses in a very origonal way- they interact without having to "train." Whatever the horse's response is- it is. I highly recommend attending one of thier clinics! Parelli Natural Horsemanship There are a lot of great natural horseman out there, but none have a home learning system that comes anywhere close to Parelli's. I may be talking myself out of a job here, but why re-invent the wheel? If you spend money on the Parelli system it is money well spent. Luis Lucio I have been in occasional email correspondance with this member of the Spanish Olympic dressage team, and his answers have always been insightful. He always makes me feel confident that I am on the right path- thank you Luis! Natural Dressage Forum The best forum ever! It is still very small and thus very friendly, and I hope it stays that way. If you are a fan of natural horsemanship AND dressage please pay us a visit. While we will give advice on the natural dressage forum, we understand that we don't know each others situations enough to give absolute answers- we brain storm, we give our experiences, and we offer inspiration. Stacy Westfall I've had the pleasure of seeing Stacy ride in person a few times now, and it is always a blast! I'm still trying to figure out how she balances the demands of a horse training business and show scedual with her obviously high standards, and yet seems to do everything with her family, which consists of three young boys. She is also very down-to-Earth and approachable which I always admire. VideosI like to give credit where credit is due and these videos defintly deserve a lot of credit! There are certainly a lot more great ones out there and I will add them as I re-find them.Karen Rohlf on Monty Aimee Brimhall at PNH tour stop Artistic Dressage Merlin- Bull Fighting horse Mikey and Red Sun- Parelli One of many Stacy Westfall bridle-less Garotcha 2008 Texas Mustang Makeover Winner Liberty Lorenzo the Flying Frenchman |
