Super Dodgeball Advance

SSuper Dodge Ball Advance is one of the most original games I have played for the GBA. The graphics and sound are both very good, and depending on how you play it, it can either be fun or boring. The different modes of Super Dodge Ball include:

Championship Mode
Exhibition Mode
Vs. Mode
Special Mode

In championship mode you are the team called the heroes, which don't belong to any country (As other temas you face will). You start in 10 place and move your rank up by defeating different teams. The team you play against, will effect how much your rank goes up. For example if you choose to play against a hard team, you may move up 2 ranks instead of one.Once you reach 1st place you face "The Dream Team", which is like the boss of Championship mode. Once you beat them you will be able to use their team, and unlock the Special Mode.

Special Mode is exactly like Championship mode with a few differences. You may choose any team to beat it with including "The Dream Team". Once you reach number one, you play against a new team you've never seen before. If you defeat them, you will unlock them which allows you to play with them in any other mode.

The exhibition mode is one single match against the computer, and allows you to use any teams you've unlocked. Vs. Mode will allow you to play one of your friends. However, this will require two cartridges, and of course a link cable.       Gameplay is fairly simple and fun. You start on a rectangular court with one line dividing it into two even sides. You may not cross the line for any reason. Each team begins with 4 players on the court, and 3 on the side. The 4 players on the court can throw, catch, dodge, and be tagged out. While the 3 players on the outside can only pass and throw.

Controls are fairly good, and the buttons are well used. When you have the ball, you can either throw the ball, jump then throw, or move around. Your character is always targeted on to a person, however, you can change it easily. When your opponent has the ball you can Dodge it by hitting the A button right before the ball hits you, or Catch it, by hitting the B button right before the ball hits you. This keeps the action up, so you have to ready with the ball or not.

Every player has a life bar above them. When they are hit, they will lose a certain amount of damage based on contact and power of the ball. For example a Super Throw may take off half the life bar, while a normal throw may take off 10. When the life bar is totally depleted, the player is out for the game. The 3 people on the side do not have life bars, since they cannot be hit. The team who has all 4 players on the court out, loses.       One of the important gameplay elements are The Super Throws. Each player is equipped with 2 different special throws. Special Throws can do anything from changing shape, to changing speed, to doing something very bizarre. Super Throws can also be used on defense in interesting ways. You may run up and jump to catch a ball, and then slam the ball on the opponent with a Super Throw.

This is IMO one of the best games for Game Boy Advance, and I would recommend getting it.
Overall Score: 8.55

Additional Comments

Super Dodgeball is a good game if you buy it for multiplayer. It has decent graphics along with sound. However, the one player mode is short and a bit dull. Only buy this game for a good multiplayer game, otherwise, it is not really worth it.
