Tenchi Muyo! is about what would happen if a poor (yeah right) 17 year old boy named Tenchi Masaki happened to end up living with five beautiful women from space. Tenchi Muyo! is really two OVA's (Original Video Animation), but it all got mixed together as one (when you're watching it). It has beautiful animation and interesting backgrounds. Honestly...it blows the other series away (IMO)!
Tenchi Muyo! was produced by AIC and dubbed by Pioneer. The director of this lovely anime is Kazuhiro Ozawa and the character design & supervising animation director is Masaki Kajishima. Q: Who are these five women?
A: First Ryoko; the beautiful space pirate/demoness was released. Ayeka; the first crown princess of Jurai came along second looking for her brother Yosho. Soon Sasami came looking for her big sister; Ayeka. Pretty soon, Mihoshi the bubble brained GP officer came along after being pulled down by an energy source. Finally; Washu the mad scientist was freed from the Soja while the gang was trying to rescue Ryoko/kill Kagato.
Q: Tenchi's grandpa is Ayeka's brother?
Half brother actually. Ayeka's father, Azusa that emporer of Jurai, has two wives; Misaki and Funaho. Funaho is Yosho's mother while Misaki is Ayeka and Sasami's. This makes also makes Ayeka and Sasami Tenchi's great aunts and Tenchi the rightful prince of Jurai.
Q: Is Washu Ryoko's MOTHER?!
She sure is! She used mass and her ova to create Ryoko! Unfortunately one of Washu's students kidnapped Washu and took over Ryoko's mind, erasing her memories! Kagato forced Ryoko to attack Jurai in search of Tsunami; this lead to Ryoko's imprisonment in the cave. Washu also created Ryo-Ohki (crystal-like material and mass) and the Soja (Souja).
Q: Who's Tsunami?
One of three elder Goddesses. The two others are Washu and Tokimi. Tsunami assymilated with Sasami to save her life. When Sasami grows up she and Tsunami will merge and become one being. Tsunami is also the first Jurian tree and the Jurai Goddess.
Q: Washu's a goddess?!
Yeap! She gave up her powers long ago and they manifested into the three red gems that Ryoko wears. Two of these gems are now in Tenchi-ken and one on Ryoko's wrist. They give Ryoko her powers. Anyhoo, Washu sealed her memory and became a mortal choosing to live in another dimension (what a coincidence that it happened to be Tenchi's dimension...huh?). She then got a job at the science academy (sp?), got married, had a child, and had both taken away from here due to her husbands 'good' linage. This explains why she always appears as a child. She can convert back to adult form at anytime and I'm pretty sure she's immortal...
Q: Who's more powerful, Ryoko or Tenchi?
Well, they'd be about the same. You see, with all three gems Ryoko would be about as powerful or even more powerful than Tenchi. When Ryoko matures she'll be able to create light hawk wings just like Tenchi can! Tenchi can create three by the way. The light hawk wings or 'wings of the light hawk' are what Juraian ships create and use for shields. They convert the harmful energy into harmless energy that passes right by uneffecting anything. Cool, huh?
Q: Is Ayeka powerful?
Of course she is! With her force fields and her Jurai power I wouldn't want to mess around with her anytime soon!
Q: How did Mihoshi obtain her job?!
Well, her grandfather is the grand marshall of the GP. He has special ties so Mihoshi got special training, a special ship (Yukinojo), and a special cube. Kagato mentions something about Mihoshi being great until she became a burn-out. Besides; she has incredible dumb luck! I mean, she accidently ended up freeing Washu from her crystal prison!
