I have always loved drawing and coloring ever since I was little. Since then I have come a long way. Since my introduction to Sailor Moon around fourth grade my art has been heavily anime (Japanese animation formerly known as japanamation) influenced. I have upgraded from my crayons to colored pencils and now I usually color on the computer using Photoshop.
How I do it
 |
First, I start with a plain pencil sketch. I start with the basic shapes and keep adding details as I progress. This usually ends up being messy because I smudge all over and the lines disappear in places making it less than attractive and difficult to color. The next step solves this though. ^_~

Once my sketch is finished, I trace over the entire picture using a pen/ultra thin marker and then erase the pencil marks. As an added affect, varying the thickness of the lines adds details and makes parts stand out better. This makes the picture clear, crisp, and ready to color.

Finally, I scan the inked picture into the computer and use an image editing program called Photoshop to color it. After filling in the flat colors it is time to add shape and depth by lightening and darkening certain areas. It sounds simple enough, but this is by far the hardest and longest step. It can also be the most fun. Also, after spending so much time and effort on a picture it, deserves a signature.

This is a greatly simplified version, but that is the basic process of how I make a finished picture. For those that do not recognize them, the characters in this picture are Sora, Riku and Kairi from Kingdom Hearts 2.
