Went looking for sambar to one of my favourite hunting
areas. I took a mate from work and his sons. They would ride their bikes
around camp and I would go in search of sambar. I reached the area I wanted
to look over and found that there had been a fire recently. I drove for
about 20km and the fire had opened up the bush, only the deep gullies had
not been touched. I did find some sign up high, jelly beans and foot prints.
It was drizzling most of the day, it was great to get out. I think that
next outing will be in another area.
I took Sara for her first ever rabbit hunt. I took her
Winchester .22LR lever action. She wore her ear muffs for protection, she
was very excited. We had a couple of rabbits run ahead of us, but did not
get a shot. Then we crept over a rise and spotted a rabbit looking the
other way. I shot it and hit it in the upper chest, Laica ran up to it
an brought it back. Sara was amazed to see Laica bring the rabbit back
to us. She touched it and felt it's eyes, teeth, ears, tail, feet etc,
she was very interested. When I shot the second rabbit Sara wanted to get
it instead of Laica. So off she went and brought back the rabbit, took
her a while to find it though. I skinned the rabbits and gave half to Laica.
Most importantly Sara had a good time and she looks forward to going again
soon. So do I.
Survived the enduro, 130km bush tracks, on my CR500. It
was hard and very dusty.
I am now making some preparations on my Landcruiser for
hunting this winter. Firstly all the maintenance. Last week I installed
a couple of quality speakers in the rear of the cabin. It is important
to hear good music on long trips, it certainly made a big difference. I
have also rewired the rear fluro light, and moved things around. I have
stored more spares in the side panels. Things such as spare (new) radiator
cap, fuses, disc pads, belts, hoses, wires, tools, etc. I hope to make
my first hunt next month, family life is good, but sometimes I do need
to get away into the bush and chase a deer or two.
